@Mrs Hedgehog: Ohhh I misread your post. I have BCBS Texas and the only DME I could find with pumps in stock only had the Ameda Purely Yours double electric. It was covered 100%, though, and came with the pump, a shoulder bag, all pump parts, a cooler, 3 ice packs and 6 storage bottles. I ordered mine through Sterling Medical Services. The phone number is (888) 202-5700. I am not sure where you could get the Medela from if that's the one you really want.

Hooray!! I had to wait a few months, but I got a Hygeia Enjoye from my insurance (Aetna) and really like it! I had never heard of the company before, but I am pretty impressed with them so far. They even recycle their pumps.

@lawbee11: I do and that would be awesome! Glad to know I'm not the only one getting it early. My OB looked at me like I was crazy. One less thing to worry about as we crawl into August.

Wait, which pump did you get? They only told me about the Medela. They never mentioned the Ameda.

I have BCBS, too and got the Ameda Purely Yours! It looks really nice! I called a mail-order supplier on a Tuesday and had it by that Friday! Sooo exciting!

@regberadaisy: The only "proof" I had to give was my OB's name and phone number. They didn't even ask my due date.

@grizz: Same thing happened to me. I called BCBS in Feb and they said they would only cover a manual. Called back again a few weeks ago and they covered the Ameda double electric in full!

@Mrs Hedgehog: Do you have BCBS Texas? If so I can give you the phone number of the mail-order supplier I used. It took less than 5 minutes to order over the phone and arrived within 3 days.

@Mrs Hedgehog: I have BCBS. It was the biggest PITA to get it though.. I live in San Jose.. super populated area.. and the closest provider was in Santa Cruz (40 min. away)! The distributor didn't want to give me the pump even though BCBS said they they had to.. It took 3 hours, but whatevs.. at least I finally got my free pump!

@artbee: I had tried calling early this year but they didn't quite have their act together. I'm 33 weeks now and just called again and got a totally different (and better) answer, I think because the law has been in effect for a while now.

My BCBS of NJ covers a basic double electric with no charge to me, or I can upgrade to a PISA for $50 or a Freestyle for $100. Just posted a poll to see what people think I should do, since how could I make a decision without asking you all??

I get a free electric Medela with Harvard Pilgrim! You just need a prescription from your OB, and you can pick it up at participating locations (they give you a list). When I asked my OB about it, she said that there are reps that are in the labor wing that will just drop one off for me as the script will be in my charts. Nice!
