I lost 9 pounds in my first 14 weeks. I've out about 6 back on in the last few but am still a little under my starting weight and I'm just about 18w. I was feeling pretty sick the first few months but am eating better again. My doctor wasn't overly concerned but I saw a dietician just to make sure I was doing all I could to stay healthy.

It's in the normal range to not gain weight or even to lose up to 5% of your pre-pregnancy weight in the first trimester. No worries!

@T.H.O.U.: is there any way of preventing or minimising stretch marks? It does worry me a little.

I lost weight up until about 29 weeks. My doctor monitored my baby's growth and it was fine. The last couple weeks I gained about 10 pounds. DS was born at 8lbs 3 ounces.

I hardly gained anything in the first trimester, but my clothes stopped fitting pretty early because i was so bloated-- pretty much I just looked a little fatter, not pregnant. I had m/s but I had to eat carbs constantly, so I was worried I'd gain too much, but it was about 2 pounds I think.

@illumina: I didn't gain until about 15 weeks either but it all shifted and I was in maternity clothes early.

Just be careful about stretch marks. I put on my 30lbs really fast in those last few weeks

i didn't gain any in my first tri either, and then went on to gain 40 lbs :P! hahah..... i will admit that about 10 lbs of that was probably preventable and was a direct corrolation with kraft dinner and big pasta lunches :D healthy baby at the end!

I barely gained any weight during my first tri (maybe like two lbs? Almost nothing), and the dr said its very normal for women to not gain any or even lose a couple lbs in the beginning :)

Thankyou all, this is most reassuring... Especially @oliviaoblivia & @mamamoose not gaining until 20wks! I had 3wks of m/s, but haven't had a huge appetite, so I guess that's why.

At 20 weeks I was down 4lbs from pre pregnancy. That was when it turned around and I started gaining. Doc said it was totally normal (especially since I had a lot of morning sickness).

I've read that it's fine to not gain any during the first tri. Most of the weight is supposed to be put on during the 2nd and 3rd from what I can gather.

I lost weight in the first Tri too, and didn't put any on till about 18 weeks. I didn't have morning sickness, I just had no appetite. I'm sure you'll start gaining soon enough.

I had first trimester weight loss. I didn't gain until 20 weeks. As long as your doc isn't worried about it it's fine. The day will come when you'll be shocked by your week to week gain.

Do you have any morning sickness? I actually lost weight my first trimester. I was so incredibly nauseous that I barely ate. My doctor was never concerned with my weight during the first trimester though. It wasn't until the second tri that he started getting on me about gaining more.

Is this normal? I'm 12wks and decided to weigh myself yesterday, only to find I'm slightly less (only a couple of lbs) than whilst TTC. I don't really feel like I'm getting any sort of bump yet either. I've always carried a little extra belly fat which is now a little firmer, but that's all.

I'm sure I'll feel better after my scan this week, but just wondered if anyone else didn't put weight on by this point?
