@Thehistoryofus: She was a friend of ours. Craigslist doesn't work for this area. But I could post on a for sale site on Facebook. I just have very high standards. At this point, we are waiting on a call back tomorrow to see if we have care. I think we have figured out a way to cobble together something for this semester. Next semester gets a little less solid.

@brownie: would you consider putting an add on Craigslist or Facebook and seeing what you get? You may be pleasantly surprised with a few good options or everyone will be crazy and you know you need to look for a spot at a center.

How did you find your current lady?

@mrsmenow: dh is the backup plan. The next closest town is over an hour away. Work is only 5 minutes away so that isn't an option. We live in the middle of no where.

Just got a few rays of hope: the preschool he is in may be able to shuffle and find him space for him when I have class. Also I heard back from the last CDC and she thinks they might have a spot and will call me in the morning.

What about your DH is there anyway he could help until you find a permenant provider. Or look into near by towns- it would suck having to drive, but might be a temporary option.

@blackbird: that is all through the CDC on base and even all of the home care is full right now.

I'm so sorry!!! That is hard and so frustrating...

I would be surprised that in a town of 30k there are no nannies either. My town is smaller and when I posted on fb I was looking for child care I received three offers from nannies in one evening.

I'd search care.com, sitter city, nannies4hire, and google your town and "nanny agency".

Also look up your county's daycare licensure site (it's a .gov site.) And they will list all licensed daycares in your area. See if there are any on that list you haven't called.

I'm so sorry you've been put in this position with such short notice!

You said it is a military town...you could talk to the FRG on base and see what they have there. Often, many of those women take in children and provide a sort of in-home daycare/nanny situation. Licensed with the state, regular check ups, etc.

A 30K town cannot be so small that there isn't some option available that you just haven't come across yet. Don't give up hope!

I'm sorry you are going through this. I think you might be surprised what you find out there once you are ready to spend some time doing research. Care.com is a great resource (with background checks).

@brownie: I'm sure there must be someone lovely. I've lived in several towns that size. Maybe spend some time venting and then revisit the idea when you are ready?

Is there anyone you know who works an opposite schedule from you that could help out? Care.com or sittercity.com may be an option to find temporary care.

We don't have nanny's in this town. It is a small town of about 30k most of which are military or government employees. I work at the college and I wouldn't hire any of them.

So we have had a great daycare lady who watched my son. Her son started school this year and she has found a full time job. We have 2 weeks to find a new care situation.

I have called every childcare I can find and there are no spots for us or our friends 2 year old. We will have to take time off of work until this gets solved this semester. But I am scheduled for afternoons for the next 2 semesters. I can't find afternoon child care. I can put him in preschool in the mornings 8:15 - 1:00 pm guaranteed. But my school won't change my schedule.

I am this close to just quitting. Part of the appeal is that the schedule is slightly flexible. I have been crying all day. I don't want to quit. I love my job but we can't find child care.
