That stinks that the surprise was 'ruined' (it's still awesome, I'm sure) ... Do you think it's okay to ask that the techs/doctors DON'T write anything like that on your chart? I'll have to remember this for our 2nd ultrasound.

@Grace: Good idea. I made a dummy Amazon registry that has slightly more girly versions of stuff.

Boooo! Very stinky that the tech wrote that down. Mine said that they wouldn't because "your doctor doesn't need to know". I'm sorry you are off the Team Green boat, but excited for your little girl! You could always concentrate on girl shopping and make a list of what you want, so that you can order it as soon as she comes.

@Reese: Next appointment is on Tuesday. They literally brought me in for what was supposed to be 5 completely unexciting minutes today, just to get the shot that needed to happen in week 28.

@photojane: Yeah I don't think it's in reference to me either. I was just trying to be in denial that they'd spoiled the surprise a LITTLE longer. I couldn't believe she actually just handed me that.

@tequiero21: I'm not sure why I have a copy either?? I'm "high risk" because of GD, so maybe they just wanted to make sure I have the info if I turned up on some other hospital's door step unannounced. My other thought is that we're registered at a very small hospital close to home with a reputation of being the "spa maternity ward". There's only 6 beds for maternity, and sometimes people from other hospital's catchments just show up there already in labour and displace the people who've been planning to go there all along, so we could be making a 2am, in labour trek by our car or an ambulance to an out of area hospital that actually has space.

@Bao: Someone mentioned that happened to you as well. Hopefully your husband was at least with you when you were told though!

@redsmarties: I think because here the tech can't tell you anything. They just call your OB with the info so they can write it down if you want to know/they think it's ok to tell you. I don't want to full out say it's a race thing... but in our area there's a high rate of abortion of female babies, so they decide if you're even allowed to know on a case by case basis.

@PinkElephant: Interesting! I don't think I could handle my husband AND my sister having info that I don't, but a good solution I guess!

I see you've already spoken to DH, but wanted to throw out there for anyone who might find themselves in the same boat that I have a friend who opted to be Team Green while her husband found out the baby's sex. Her sister also knew so she could send a box of hand me downs for the appropriate sex. Her hubby managed to keep the secret til LO was born!

Oh man, I'm sorry the surprise was most likely ruined. We are also team green and our offices have been so great about keeping the secret from us. My OBGYN's office didn't even write down the gender. The office we went to for the fetal echocardiogram did though.

Sad that you may have found out when you'd wanted to be team green - but hooray for another little girl! Strange that they'd even document gender - even when I told my midwife what they'd said, she didn't seem to care/write it down.

That is so annoying! I wonder why she even had to put that down in your chart. My ultrasound tech purposefully
Stayed away from looking between the legs so absolutely no one knew. Even though she could probably tell, when I asked if she could tell if it was a boy or girl, she replied that her job was only looking to make sure the baby is healthy, not the gender. Even my doctor didn't know what I was having.

It definitely seems like you're having a girl! I don't think they'd need to write a female symbol on your chart to represent your sex... if you're pregnant, it's pretty obviously that you're female. :) I'm so sorry the surprise was ruined, but girls are SO much fun! Now you can start picking out dresses & hairbows - weee!

@SAHM0811: @Jennimac: @Corduroy: @runsyellowlites: @lawbee11: @Dandelion: Thanks guys! I did call him and told him they gave me a copy of my records that has a "very suspicious gender symbol" on it. He did want to know what it was, but as I suspected doesn't want to actually confirm with the doctor that it was there in real reference to anything meaningful. He's been referring to it as a girl since the ultrasound though, because he thought the tech said "her feet" and "she's very active". I guess we'll discuss over the weekend, because I'm not sure how I feel about team green limbo! It's kind of like the worst of both worlds... The moment it's born is likely to be kind of anticlimactic gender-wise but also not being able to indulge my type A planner side??? Not a good combo!

Just kind of sucks, I'm still like... "seriously?? You just gave me that?" especially since this was just supposed to be a quickie shot appointment, so I didn't even bring DH because nothing exciting was happening.

You never know. We thought our surprise was ruined but we spoiled it for ourselves.

We didn't find out at our anatomy scan. We asked the technician to write it down for us. We were still deciding if we would be team green when DH showed me the male genitalia he found on the US pic. So we decided to open the envelope with his family over the holidays since it wasn't really a surprise any more. Turns out we were having a girl.

Ooh that's a hard one. I don't have any experience with that, but if it was me, I'd have to tell DH that I know. @Bao: has experience with this. They were team green until it was messed up at a later ultrasound. The tech let it slip.

So, I had a quickie appointment today where I was just supposed to get my Rhogam shot, in and out. I'm 28 weeks, and we're Team Green. DH passionately so, me.... kind of just going along with the surprise for his sake.
So, they said it's probably a good idea at this point for us to have a copy of our records to carry just in case. And the receptionist give me this photocopy as I was leaving. On the line where it talks about the 20 week ultrasound was a pretty clear "female" symbol, so I handed it back to her and was like... "umm.. that symbol refers to ME right??" and she scratched it out with sharpie, says yes, and hands it back.
So, bees.... what do you say? Are our team green days effectively over? Should I tell DH I "know"?
At this point I'm just tempted to ask at the next appointment that he's coming with me to, and get actual confirmation. If the surprise that he wanted is pretty much ruined, we might as well be able to just plan for a girl, right??
