I joke that if you send your kid to a school that doesn't allow you to bring in edible treats, you never have to buy playdoh. DS is turning 3 next month so I'm feeling the pressure. I was thinking about donating a book to the classroom instead. And how awful is it that I was almost going to talk myself out of it b/c how would the kids' parents know that I did that and then they'll think I cheaped out. Which made me realize that we do all of this crap to impress the parents and the kids really wouldn't care either way. Sure my kid loves when he gets a present/goodie bag. I agree that goodie bags are mainly "junk", but I always keep the "junk" to use later. They come in handy for certain situations, like plane rides. If you lose something, no big deal, and then toss when you arrive.
