Maybe a pumping bra might help you feel more comfortable?

I would far sooner pump with a cover (or uncovered, even, because I'm like that) in my shared office than sit in a bathroom. You deserve better than that!

If you are friends with your coworker, I'd definitely pump in the office. With a cover and a sweater, you can look almost normal while pumping. I have to pump at the hospital and people are coming in and out of the room all the time. With a cover, I don't feel exposed (even though I still won't do it in front of guests at home).

Some pumps are louder than others though so that might be an issue. If you insurance covers it, get the Medela Symphony. It's super quiet!

A lady at my work used to pump in an supply closet. It had a plug, she kept a chair in there, and would just lock the door. Our office has a room but it is on the other side of the building, 5 min walk, and half the time she said someone else was in there. I will probably have to do the same as her.

Will any of your coworkers be out of their offices on the days you need to pump? I had an officemate pump every two hours for DAYS without asking us first (3 cubes in an office) and it was REALLY awkward (we asked our manager to ask her to pump elsewhere.. still feel bad about it but seriously.)... but if you ask her and she's okay with it, maybe you can do it while she's there?

We're in a small office - just a few rooms and the conference room is the main open/shared room. We are looking at moving so hopefully when I get back from mat leave there would be an extra space. It's all women who work here and they are very accommodating, it's just the layout of the place is too small to go anywhere else.

Car isn't a bad idea!

Don't pump in the bathroom! Ask them for space! Even just a closet!

If nothing else, pump in the car.

@Brownie is right -- they have to provide you with a space that is NOT a bathroom (though it doesn't have to be exclusively a pumping space, it can be a shared space like a conference room, etc) and they have to prove undue hardship to get out of it, no matter how small they are. Good luck! Don't pump in the bathroom!

I used the conference room but when that was in use I used a supply closet. I would've used my car if I couldn't use either of those rooms. I wasn't comfortable pumping in a public bathroom.

I exclusively pumped and had work with whatever situation I was in when I left the house. More often than not, I would just pump in my car with my jacket draped over. I tried to park further away to get a little bit of privacy. I have also pumped in a lot of bathrooms, and it made me pretty stressed out. It doesn't hurt to ask your employer if there is anything they can do to help.

Actually, just being small does not necessarily mean they don't have to follow the law (you should look into the law). They have to show that it would cause undo financial loss. If you are exempt, then yes, they don't have to follow the law. You should read the law yourself. Also some state laws supercede the federal law so you may have protections that way.

Check about a small conference room, see if there are other workers whose offices would be available on the days you work that perhaps you could use or ask your co-worker to step out of the office for the times you need to pump (someone at my office currently does this and I did this on occasion when our conference room wasn't available).

I've had to pump in the bathroom when at a conference and a tip I can share (if you have to go that route). If the toilet has a tank (like most house toilets), sit facing the wall and use the tank as a shelf to hold your pump, while not all that comfortable i found it easier than trying to balance my pump on my knees.

Sometimes my designated pumping spot was occupied so I had to pump in the bathroom with a folding chair or my car.

Wagon Sr. had a coworker who pumped sitting on the toilet in the bathroom. I pump in a bathroom, but it's a single room bathroom with a couple of padded stools. If I were in your situation and my employer couldn't provide a room, I'd probably pump in the car with a cover.

I definitely wouldn't want to pump in the bathroom. Have you discussed with your work at all? Even tho they're not required, would they be willing to provide you with a room. Another option is maybe using a cover and pumping in your office. That might be a pain and I'm not sure how your coworkers would feel.

I work for a small company so they aren't required to have a pumping room. The bathroom is two stalls, although I suppose I could maybe drag a folding chair in there. I share an office with a co-worker who is there in the mornings. I'm planning on working 2 full days and one half day a week after baby, so I'm thinking I will probably need to pump sometime when my coworker is there.

Will I just have to suck it up and sit on the toilet? What do you do if you work somewhere to small to provide pumping space?
