We haven't totally cut it, because I need K to have a little bit of 'down' time (it is literally the only time she stays still). BUT, we have cut back drastically. It has made such an impact on her behavior! She gets 10min with breakfast, 15 min with her lunch and sometimes a show before bed. It's the morning cutback than has had the most positive impact

We cut it out totally for two days DH was home and now we only do when I have a shower. Tv doesn't come on again until he's in bed. It's actually been not too bad. Reading a lot of books and getting outside if it's nice!

The only screen time DD gets on a daily basis is two Sesame Street songs on YouTube while she brushes her teeth (Elmo's brush teeth song while she "brushes" herself, and one more while I finish the job). VERY occasionally, I let her watch an episode of Curious George if I'm solo and need her attention occupied so I can get something done. Honestly, it's kind of exhausting to keep her entertained and there are days when I just long to plop her down in front of the TV, but it's really important to my DH that we keep screen time to a minimum for as long as possible.

We spend a lot of time entertaining DD. She's finally starting to play independently for short periods, but she definitely prefers playing with us. Puzzles, art supplies, Duplos, her kitchen set, and her train are essential. Now that the weather is getting nicer, she loves taking walks and talking about what she sees (she asks what EVERY plant along the way is, talks about pine ones and rocks, points out all the cats and dogs looking out windows, etc). A four-block walk can easily take the better part of an hour! The trade-off for limited screen time is that it's pretty much impossible to get anything done while DD is awake, though.

Ha, no! We don't do screen time lately in the mornings but with my two year old no longer napping he gets to watch a movie while I work or finish projects in the afternoon. I love that time - not willing to cut it out. :) But I do think not having screen time in the morning has really helped both children with their attitudes!

We cut screen time and it had made such a difference. Of course there is an adjustment period. Anyone who thinks they need it for solo parenting or whatever is just used to relying on it for distraction. Your kid(s) will be fine without screen time. They will get bored (it's ok!) and they will find other things to do. Something that helped me was reminding myself and DH that we're not entertainers. Taking the pressure off myself to entertain and play with the kids at all time was very helpful. The kids keep getting better at playing alone or together.
I'd be up for bouncing around busy ideas for kids, I also think good dose of unstructured time has been great for my kids creativity and resourcefulness ;).

@junebugsmama: Haha such a balancing game! I'm with you! If I'm there, I try not to have screen time! I think it's b/c DH is just naturally not as good with playing with her as I am so a lot of times he has to resort to screen time. And we're also totally guilty of giving her screen time during meals before :meh:

@snowjewelz: This is all true for me from the DH to the car! It took me a while to get on board with no guilt about screen time... DH and I were raised so differently about TV. It makes me feel better that DS can take it or leave it. And when he started being able to watch it in the car...that was life changing for us! But I try to limit it on my days mostly SOLO parenting to counteract more screen time on DH's more solo days!

@avivoca: Same... DH is always more likely to give her TV, but it's hard for me to say anything b/c he is solo parenting a lot more than me. I usually just tell him to make sure he's interacting with her and not letting her just stare at it.

I'd say we're pretty good during the week, but she always gets to watch videos in car rides more than 10 minutes on weekends b/c she just does not like being in the car...

We really try to limit it during the week. T doesn't usually get TV on school days (T, W, Th). I need to give it on M and W because he doesn't nap and I'm pregnant and tired. We eliminated totally for a few weeks when he was like 2.5 and it was causing major problems...his behavior was a lot better without! The 15m old now is interested in TV so I really try not to have it on at all unless we are watching something specific.

I'm working toward it as I am home alone with H, but I will have a very, very hard time getting her father on board. So on the days where he is not here, we will not be watching TV. I notice that her behavior is better. I'm also going to tell him to stop letting her watch a video while he does her hair/sucks boogies.

We have been doing a no screen time challenge since last Friday, for behavior, and it's really helping! Thanks to a certain bee for the great idea of cutting screen time! We want to continue for a while, and thought it would be nice to get a few others on board. We could bounce boredom ideas off each other, too. Ways to keep LO's busy without the TV/phone/iPad. This isn't a forever thing, but more of a screen time cleanse.

Anyone up for the challenge with me? :)
