My son was 17 months old when DD was born. I t was a lot when DH would bring him. He was always extremely well behaved but I was just exhausted an wanted to focus on only one child I was in the hospital for 3 days and he only came twice. Plus he got RSV and I'm pretty sure he picked it up from the hospital.

I just had a repeat section and was home 29 hours later. We had DD1 meet DD2 at the hospital but it would have been just as memorable at home.

My hospital is the same as @spaniellove: . Multiple bands on the baby and any movement beyond the maternity ward would set off alarms and cause an immediate lock down.

I initially really wanted DD 1 to meet DD 2 at the hospital. But she had just gotten over an illness so we thought it best to keep her out of the hospital. In the end she met her at home, in an environment she was comfortable in. I think that was equally as special. But I had a vaginal delivery and was only away from her for about 28 hours.

@Mrs. Lion: We weren't allowed to bring Charlie in to meet Olive either! At first it was because of childcare issues, but then it was because she was getting treated for jaundice.

It turned out nicely though! It let us focus on Olive at the hospital, and Charlie once we got home. I was kind of surprised at how it turned out, since I was pretty disappointed when we first realized that he wouldn't able to meet her at the hospital!

@Mrs. Lion: It might depend on how high the security is at your hospital...ours was very strict about moving the babies (multiple bands and alarms) and taking a newborn past the doors of the unit would have set off alarms.

@IRunForFun: I will ask! Last time LO was in the nicu so there was no leaving until discharge...I don't know how restrictive they are with newborns who room in.

Could you possibly bring baby out into a lounge area outside of the maternity wing for a bit to meet LO?

I just found out that due to the flu, no kids under 12 will be permitted back into the maternity wing of the hospital. That means lo won't be able to meet his sister until we go home :( I will be having a c-section which means I will probably have to stay a bit longer...and while I TOTALLY understand the restriction, I am so sad that I will have to wait at least a day or two before I will get to see lo or have the two of them together.

Has anyone else found a way to deal with this? Any creative solutions? I don't want to facetime or skype, as he is too young to understand and I am afraid it will make him upset to see us and not be able to be with us.
