We have a one-bite rule. In addition we have a "you can get up when you have this much food" amount, but usually we have him take one bite of everything, and then he can "fill up" on whatever he likes. He's decent about taking his one bite. Fits are rare.

My 21 month old is pretty good about "tasting" things but generally that means he puts it in his mouth and then spits it right back out. It's not ideal but I guess it's an ok starting point.

My 3.5 year old is pretty good about trying everything once. We always tell her "just try it, and if you don't like it. You can spit it back out". Sometimes she doesn't and it comes right back out and we tell her that's ok but thank you for trying. Sometimes she does like it and ask for more. Then we say "see, aren't you glad you tried it? Or you wouldn't have known you like it!". To which she smiles and nods.

The 14 month old will open her mouth to any and all food. But if she doesn't want it, she pushes it out with her tongue in a nano second with a face of disgust. She tries everything but is pickier than my older was at this age.

Ugh, DD is so stubborn. Lately we've had a little success with getting her to try a bite, but it's literally the tiniest bite possible. I don't even think she's even getting a taste of the food. But we've been trying to enforce that she at least try something before rejecting it

E is 3.5 and I'd love to get him to take "no thank you" bites, but outside of shoving the food in his mouth, it's not going to happen. The few times we've gotten him to take a nibble of a food he doesn't want to try he dramatically gags... where does he even learn that?!

My kid will generally try anything at least once, unless she's in a shitty mood already. I do try to get her to try it (I generally say "please take a bite and then if you don't like it don't eat it) but if it isn't happening I don't force the issue. She's only 1.5 though.

Is your LO good about trying new foods, or do they pitch a fit? We have been trying to get our girls to try "no thank you" bites. They have to take at least one bite, preferably two...and if they don't like it then they don't have to eat it and we are fine with it. DH and I were getting frustrated when they wouldn't touch their food and it was pretty kid friendly stuff. We've had decent success with them trying things though, more so our 3 year old but it's a step in the right direction!
