Just wanted to chime in and say I actually lost weight around 32ish weeks (it was not due to a lack of eating, trust me!) and it totally freaked me out! My OB wasn't concerned at all and I wish I could remember what she said to reassure me, but I'm totally blanking. That's great your OB is sending you for an ultrasound so you can ease your mind!

I'm currently 35 weeks and I too hadn't gained anything in the last six weeks. But all measurements and such have shown growth, and I had an ultrasound today that estimated that the baby was exactly on target and maintaining their growth rate, so none of us is worried.
Hopefully you'll have the same result at your ultrasound.

I gained 16 pounds total (started at 5'9" and 140). My midwife wasn't concerned and I had a healthy 7lb 10oz boy at 39 weeks. Glad you're getting it checked out, but wanted to tell you that it's not always something scary

@pachamama: I just wanted to chime in and say that it is not necessarily abnormal for your OB to never give a weight estimate on your baby. Mine only uses fundal height because in his opinion the weight estimates are 1) Inaccurate and 2) Aren't going to tell him a ton anyways.

I hope your scan goes well and gives you some comfort.

@pachamama: i gained 6lbs initially and then didn't gain anything from week 21 until week 36 with my DD2 (was 5'2, 110 pre-preg). fundal measurement always showed baby was growing. Doc was never that concerned, but was going to just do an u/s to check things out if I hadn't gained anything at the 36w appt. I gained a lb, so no u/s. Baby came at 39+5, 7lbs 4oz and 19.5in.

@pachamama: It's very ballpark, but they can tell approximately how big they are based on ultrasounds and whether that's on track with the due date and if they're progressing normally. My kid was measuring 2 weeks behind her due date consistently, and she didn't grow at all between 32 and 36 weeks, which prompted my induction.

@Mama Bird: Thanks for responding... Just called my OB and she is gonna get me in for an ultrasound next week (in 6 days). Wish I could do it sooner but I'm just glad she's checking things out!
@Baby Boy Mom: Yeah my instinct was telling me to call so I did!

Do you have a growth ultrasound coming up? My OB always does them at 30-something weeks. They could check if baby is growing in track then.

For what it's worth, I didn't gain weight well with either of my kids in the last trimester, even though I ate a lot. I did exercise a lot both times though. They were both tiny when they were born, especially DD (just six pounds), but they made up for it fast. There wasn't anything wrong, I guess I just grow small babies.

I honestly would be concerned. Had a similar experience as some of the previous posters- IUGR, slowed weight gain but not totally stopped. It wasn't a severe case thankfully but essentially the placenta was working at a decreased level near the end. Getting an ultrasound seems like a no brainer and I would push for one.

I gained 20 lbs really quickly and basically never gained any weight until I delivered -- at 34w 4d. I don't know if it was related at all, but it is something I always think about - that no one really commented on or noticed that I stopped gaining. He was "big" for 34 weeks - 5 1/2 pounds so he was definitely growing but I wonder if I wasn't getting enough calories? This isn't meant to scare you at all, my main message is that if you think its weird or it worries you, advocate for yourself and make sure everything is okay!

I always gained in "clumps" for a lack of a better word. I didn't gain for 20 weeks, and then gained 8 pounds, didn't gain for another 5 weeks, and then gained 11 in one month, and then gained another 7 or so in the last month. They were never concerned since I was always measuring on, and in the end I still almost gained the recommended 25 pounds.

@Mrs. Carrot: This was me also! I quit gaining weight, and my fundal height was changing weekly, but was 1cm behind. OB didn't seem concerned.

At my 35 week ultrasound to determine the baby's position, they found out DS had quit growing at 32 weeks! She wanted to induce me right then and there, but MFM said I could wait another week. I went in for 2 more weekly checkups before my OB said no more waiting. It's safer/healthier for the baby to be on the outside than in at this point since something is clearly failing/not right.

I'm currently pregnant with my second so the OB wanted to keep a really close on on DD to make sure we catch it early if history repeats itself.

Is the baby measuring normally and gaining weight/size between your checkups? Normally I'd say that if your doc isn't worried, you shouldn't be either, and if your kiddo is growing normally, then you definitely shouldn't be. But I would ask the docs to do a close check on the kiddo. I gained very little weight my entire pregnancy, and no one was worried because I'm overweight to begin with, but it turned out that my kiddo wasn't growing very well in utero (official diagnosis was IUGR) and had to be evacuated early (at 36W) at 4.5 lbs to help her grow better outside. I'm fairly certain your situation isn't the same, but I would ask for an extra check on the baby just to be totally safe.

I am currently 35.5 weeks pregnant and feeling great but I haven't gained weight since week 28. I gained 16 lbs very quickly then plateaued (FWIW, I was 5'6" and 130 to start). At my bi-weekly appointments, fundal height growth is fine (measured 33+1 at my 33+5 week appointment for example) but it seems weird to me. I do exercise a lot but I have been eating quite a bit.
I've had no ultrasounds or other checks at all besides "the tape measure", BP, fetal heart rate, routine bloodwork and weight.
Anyone else find they're not gaining weight? Is this normal? I asked my OB's and they're not worried...?
