Great question! I just priced out Pampers and Huggies at BRU, Target and diapers.com. And for all of them, Diapers.com was the price winner. (Up and Up - Target store brand was the overall cheapest, though).
We're registering for both Pampers and Huggies so we can see which ones work better.

Luvs. I tried used pampers in the beginning but for some reason we had leaking problems. I get LO's Luvs at BJs. They have gone up a bit in price but usually always have a coupon.

I have disposables for her for daycare (they don't allow cloth) but I use Honest diapers. Jessica Alba's company. http://www.honest.com I tried Pampers, gave her rashes like it did me as a baby, ironic! I like huggies, but when I found honest diapers, I left them all.LOL

@Mrs. Jacks: No joke! I usually do better research to make sure I'm not succumbing to green washing, but I've been really happy with the seventh generation cleaning products that I've used and just blindly trusted them on the diapers.

@owlmom: 7th generation does use dye! http://www.seventhgeneration.com/Diapers (under scents, sizes and ingredients).

For his first month the only ones that worked well were the Pampers Sensitive that the hospital sent us home with. Now we are branching into Swaddlers and Huggies with good results. We are going to try out other brands too, just depends on what is available and cost and coupons.

We used Pampers mostly for LO #1. Loved them. For a few months prior to potty training, we did try Luvs for a while too and those were great also. At the time, Luvs were significantly cheaper, yet still offered great protection. Now though, Luvs upped their price so I feel like one might as well just go with Pampers (they are also both from the same manufacturer).

However, Pampers started smelly "chemical-y" to me when we had LO #2. I tried Seventh Gen and Earths Best as alternatives but just didn't like their fit. Earths best diapers were stiff too and it was hard to tell with Seventh Gen when the diaper had even a little urine. I also read that Seventh Gen bleaches their diapers to get that brown color (IMO unnecessary for an eco-friendly diaper).

Anyway, then came along Nature Babycare. the reviews on Diapers.com and Amazon were pretty good so I gave them a try and I am hooked! LO's bottom doesn't get red/irritated with them at all and we've had no leaks (it's been almost 4-5 months we've used them). They are the Eco-friendly diapers that closest to Pampers IMO. Two of my mommy friends recently made the switch too. I can't recommend them enough!

My friend who recently had twins (8 weeks old now) swears by Pampers. She got some Huggies in a diaper cake and she said all they do is leak. Also, there's a Pampers Points program you can join and put your points towards things like pictures at Shutterfly! Perfect!

When LO was brand new, we used Pampers from the hospital and ones that were gifted to us. I really liked them. I also tried a back of Huggies that were gifted to us and HATED them, we always had major blow outs with them. I currently use the Kirkland brand from Costco and they've been my favorite. They seem to be the best priced and even have the occasional coupon. Sure there were still blow outs at times, but I swear my boy just had strong poo or something, lol. It would also happen a lot when he was ready to go up in size. Their diapers go up to a size 6 and he's been in a size 5 for quite a while. So if you went that route I would at most buy two of each of the lower sizes to start out (that is it you go crazy like me and stock up when they have coupons for $5 off a box).

We mostly cloth diaper, but when we use disposables, we aren't brand loyal. We've used pampers, huggies, and seventh generation, all with equally good results. The hippie mama in me prefers the seventh generation because they don't contain chlorine or dyes. But I do love that pampers and huggies have a wetness indicator on the outside in sizes through 2. LO is only 17 weeks, though, so my opinion might change once she's crawling.
