As long as he's getting the equivalent of two breast feedings per day, he's getting the benefits, so you could still reap benefits as lOng as you continue.

I don't have links to data, but the nurse/LC who runs my BF support groups says that there are many immunological benefits to non-exclusive BFing. The baby gets the benefit of your immune system from breast milk, which help the baby fight off illness and infection. These benefits don't decrease over time. So, while they don't provide long term benefits necessarily, they provide short term benefits of helping the baby stay healthy for as long as you keep BFing.

I was wondering if the hive could help me out.

I've never produced enough breastmilk to bf exclusively, so currently my DS (4 mos) gets both bm and formula pretty much in equal amounts.

I'm trying to figure out when I should stop breastfeeding him. My original goal was 6 mos, but I wonder if that's too soon given that my son isn't exclusively breastfed.

Anyone have any data about whether longevity versus quantity of breastmilk consumed is better for long term health benefits?
