G just rolls with it. He either naps in the car or stroller or he pushed through until we are home again. I think part donut is that he's easier going than the big boys were and part of it is that we are way more relaxed this time and aren't going to skip everything just so he can nap at home. We would literally never leave the house because he takes two naps (sometimes 3) and the boys still take one in the middle of the day. I do try to make sure he gets one good nap at home, but beyond that is hit or miss depending on what we have going on that day.

I will usually have her do some painting, crafts, or puzzles.

I also would leave the house at the start of baby's nap and walk to the library (for storytime). I would take the scenic route (30 min) and we would wait outside while LO1 has a snack. I could usually squeeze a 1 hr nap for the baby in the Ergo.

We bought her a tricycle to ride in the garage and a swing set for the backyard so she could burn off some energy but within the range of our monitor for the sleeping baby

I think you just figure it out with flexibility. If your oldest is already in preschool twice a week, there are only a few days left. Maybe play at home or in your yard once or twice and fudge your youngest's nap once or twice a week (with sleep on your way to an outing or a shorter than usual nap).

My toddler gets to watch one show each day when her sister goes down for her morning nap, and then we usually rotate between baking, a preschool-age project/lesson, and pretend play. It's our one-on-one time! Twice a week we usually have an outing or play date and mess with DD2's morning nap.

We put our son in preschool full time to avoid this. But I also WAHM 20 - 30 hours a week and I couldn't do that with my toddler home everyday.

I added a third preschool day. Otherwise I just drag baby along and he figures it out. He usually takes better afternoon naps to make up for it. (He's only 2 months, though. I can imagine needing to get a bit more rigid when he's older).

@californiadreams: Probably! It would have never worked with my oldest because he was a really sensitive sleeper and needed to be in his crib, but maybe she will just have to learn to be flexible?

What does your toddler do on non-preschool days when you can't leave the house because the baby is still taking a morning nap? Do you plan stuff for at home? Or do you just drag the baby to activities anyway and hope she sleeps in the car? When the toddler was a baby we just got out during the time he was awake and it wasn't an issue...but if we wait to go out after the morning nap we will have missed all the fun toddler-friendly activities that are offered in our area.

This is making me wish I could sign him up for more than 2 days of preschool...Any suggestions?

Also, has anyone ever signed their kid up for two different 2 day preschools so they can go 4 days? This sounds ridiculous but I am almost considering it! We don't have any programs near us that have more days per week for his age, but he would have so much more fun playing with kids 4 days a week than being stuck at home where I have to try to keep him quiet so the baby can sleep.

Any magical solutions?! :)
