@Canoli: @Madison43: Thanks! That sounds pretty similar to what he is doing. We have a conference coming up with his daycare teachers. I will see what they think :) All of our good friends have very calm cautious girls...I am the only one with a rambunctious boy, so I don't have a lot to compare to haha.

It's not particularly loud but my 3 yo will sometimes make this glutteral ugh ugh sound when she's excited, and now that I think about it, it almost always happens when there is a new adult around. I think of it as shyness and excitedness manifesting in one weird noisy way

My 5 year old sometimes does this. In regards to strangers I think it's a combination of being shy and maybe awkwardness. He also can get very hyper and run around making noises too. I have always chalked it up to him being excited but not properly knowing how to express himself. Other times I think it is attention seeking. He has 2 younger brothers so it's hard for us to give equal attention. I will say it has gotten better now that he is a little older and we are starting to see signs of him maturing. It doesn't hurt to mention it to your OT. I have had countless conversations with my sons daycare teacher about his behavior mostly related to his not following directions and acting extremely silly when not appropriate because I was concerned about ADD or something. You are his advocate and I feel like if you're concerned it's worth mentioning. Go with your gut, you've got nothing to lose!

Does anyone else have a child who screeches, grunts, squeals, and makes other loud noises when very excited, even though they are perfectly capable of talking?

LO is 3.5 and has an excellent vocabulary, speaks in full sentences, etc. But when he is excited he completely stops talking and just makes non-verbal noises instead. I don't know if he is trying to baby-talk like his 21 month old sister, or if he is too excited to form sentences, or if there is something to be concerned about here?

I think the oddest time he does this is when he meets a stranger. When we are out in public, often he cannot make sentences to talk to new people, he just squeals at them instead. If I prompt him with a sentence, he will sometimes repeat it, but sometimes just continues with the babbling.

We worked with an OT this summer for some sensory processing issues...I am wondering if I should give her a call or if this is normal development?
