It was a great location (shopping necessities and restaurants/fast food walking or short drive), had a pool (which no one ever used but us) and we had a screened in patio overlooking said pool and the ocean in the background. Direct access to the beach. 3 bedrooms and 2.5 or 3 baths (Cant remember). Full kitchen. Washer dryer. Early October could be quite risky to plan travel, since in the last two years our most major storms have hit in September and early October, but later October is generally okay.<br /> It's best to stick to as far south in the caribbean as you can get during the season, but the zika-free options are limited. I really thought Antigua was in the clear (looked myself earlier this year) but the CDC map now has it high risk.</p> <p>Anyway - just want to mention hurricanes because they have been much more active later in the season which might not line up with historical info or planning advice you might be seeing online.<br /> 2016 had Hurricane Matthew hitting Haiti/Cuba/Bahamas in the first week of October. Then Hurricane Nicole hitting Bermudas late in the second week. It was dry, sunny and about 77. Not too hot to lay at the pool or beach. I snorkeled every day. Except I forgot about zika...</p> <p>I looked at the CDC map and the following seem safe (or on the "no longer present list):<br /> - Bahamas (just went Nov. 2016)<br /> - Bermuda (just meh - might not be as warm then)<br /> - Cayman Islands<br /> - St. Barths</p> <p>Suggestions - either other places to consider (flying from NYC) or sell me on one of the above? </p>
