@jetsa: Yes, that's right. The 0.5 - 1 oz is if you're pumping shortly after nursing!

Though I suspect if you continue to pump when your LO isn't nursing, you may gain and oversupply. I usually just pumped a little bit to relieve engorgement and my breasts regulated to stop producing as much while he was sleeping those longer stretches.

ETA: Although an oversupply probably would've been nice for me when I returned to work!!

Sounds normal! I would get anywhere from two to five ounces if I pumped while she was nursing the other side or she skipped a feeding.

My LO is almost 4 weeks and if I pump to replace a feeding I get about 5oz. I was getting almost double that when I was having oversupply issues, but calmed that down by pumping just enough for relief.

Yes this sounds about right! Also, a little bit of an oversupply is no big deal and even helpful in the long run. It's only an issue when LO ends up getting only foremilk (you would know cuz there would be other symptoms).

@Mrs. Jump Rope: At 5 weeks i was all over the place, but yes, if she surprised me with a longer stretch of sleep, I would wake up so full and uncomfortable. I was pretty lazy so mostly would just lay there full and wait until she woke up, rather than getting the pump set up. It will settle down in a few weeks.

ETA: And I usually got somewhere between 2 and 4 oz pumping total, in between feedings. I never felt like I had an over or under supply.

Sounds normal. I think the 0.5-1 is if you pump after feeding.

I always pumped (and sometimes still do) in the middle of the night, and despite feeding her all day, there are times where I will get up to 4-5 ounces. I can't go more than 3 hours without pumping, or I physically feel ill.

Then again, sometimes I get nothing. Boobs are so weird :)

Sounds very normal. I pump in the mornings because he's just not hungry and I get about 4 ounces.

That sounds about normal. I only pump 2x a day now and wait until I feel pretty "full".. I get about 6-7oz a session. That covers the next day's bottles. I found that at 2 hours between sessions, I would still just get about 2-3oz so I stretched the time out. I think between bottles and breast, LO gets 24-32oz of bm a day.

I know another momma that gets nearly 20oz her first session of the day! She then pumps again at work so has built up quite a large supply and donates.

@anandam: she is five weeks! I don't want a full blown freezer stash, but enough that I could get a few hours out would be great!

Sounds normal to me! I think maybe the 0.5-1oz is per breast. How old is she? In the early days most women have some degree of what feels like oversupply - leaking, spraying, engorgement between feeds, but it balances to some extent around 6 weeks and then really balances around 3 months when major hormonal shifts happen. Do be careful with pumping between feeds, though, so you don't inadvertently stimulate overproduction. Wait until you're uncomfortable and even then just express enough to relieve the discomfort (unless you're really trying to build up a freezer stash).

Sounds normal to me. I get 2-4oz when I pump. However, if you're doing complete pumps at those times she's not eating, you're telling your body to make extra milk... So definitely could create an oversupply

I'm still in the learning curve of breastfeeding so be gentle :) I've been googling but I'm not even sure what to look up, tbh.

Charlotte normally sleeps in 3-4 hour increments, but sometimes she will surprise us with a 5-7 hour stretch. Our pediatrician said not to wake her. I can't go that long without feeding her so I pump. Sometimes I feel full after two hours, so I have to pump regardless of how long she's been asleep.

Sometimes, I'll pump and get 2oz total from a session. Other times, I'll get 4oz.

KellyMom says that an EBF mom should be getting .5-1oz when pumping..... So do I have an over supply? Or does this sound normal?
