Love Watch Hill, RI. It isn't cheap, but you can stay in Mystic, CT which is really close by and is a beautiful destination too. It will be like doing two trips in one! Or if you really want to splurge, spemd a night at Ocean House in Watch Hill, amazing!

@locavore_mama I second @heartonastring suggestion of Sandbanks Provincial Park in Picton (in Prince Edward County), Ontario, which has a great beach. You can camp at the park or simply visit the beach during the day and stay at a quaint B&B in nearby Picton. Picton/Sandbanks is only about a 3.5 hour drive from St. Catharine's. There are also sand dunes near the beach where kids can run down into the water and swim.

If you go to LI, stop by to visit me :grin: I loved Northfork & Montauk areas too in LI... Wine tasting, lavender fields, beaches, seafood... It's great!

I went to this small beach town called Brigantine that's right next to Atlantic City. Quiet sandy beaches, and one night we went into AC. I don't remember much about food though!

I agree with some others - drop the kids in NYC, then head to RI - Newport or block island (block island is a 1.5 hr ferry from point Judith) it's quiet and pretty - not fancy, great beaches, biking restaurants, it's very chill. Newport has a little more action.

You could also head to Long Islands, north fork - wine country! Lots of cute inns, restaurants, beaches.

Watch Hill, RI is also adorable, but pricey....

Newport RI or Block Island (RI). I would suggest the Cape but it's not really worth it for just 2 days because of all the driving and traffic getting off/on the Cape.

@junebugmama: where's block island?
LOL We're undecided if we will take the kids with us or not. NYC is about a 6-7 hr drive for us. So if we didn't take the kids with us the only ones that can watch are kids are my mom. So we would drive to NYC and my mom (my family is in NYC) will watch the kids for the weekend. Then DH and I will drive somewhere within a 2hr radius for the weekend. Then drive back to NYC to pick up the kids. Then drive home. So that's the other option versus taking the kids with us. :)

Northern Michigan (top of the lower peninsula) is less than 8 hours from Niagara. It's beautiful, the beaches are great and it is super family friendly. There are lots of spectacular restaurants as well. Until we moved to Michigan I had no idea!

What are some good beach destinations that are family friendly in the Northeast? We're in Upstate NY and only 30 minutes from the Canadian Border near St Catherines, Ontario. So Canada beaches are possible too!

Looking for anywhere from an 8-10 hr drive vicinity.

Must be affordable, family friendly, and bonus if it's a beautiful non rocky beach! ;) Great food is obviously a bonus for us. ;)

Not for this year but for next year, for our 5th wedding anniversary I would love to either take the kids to the beach for a long weekend. Or drop them off at my mom's in NYC and drive somewhere within 2 hr radius for a weekend.

thanks!
