I've used it more in the last year (my son is 3 1/2) than I ever did when he was a newborn or toddler. Until they figure out how to blow their noses it's necessary unless you don't mind hearing them breathe through snot whenever their nose is stuffy. But I sucked really hard too. I also could taste the saline so I'm pretty certain the filter does nothing anything. </p> <p>I changed it every once in a while, whenever I thought of it I guess. Friend said that babies don't need their noses sucked after they are a couple months old, since after that the nostrils are wide enough they can get it clear on their own. That eased my confusion since LO has been snotty/sniffly/runny ever since she started daycare a few weeks ago and I have yet to experience a moment when I thought she needed suction at all. Which made me wonder when people decide to use it?
