Maybe it was coincidence, but I doubt it...I mean yes, she coughs on me and wipes her snot on me, but with the NoseFrida you're drawing germy snotty air directly into your lungs. The sponge would keep actual snot from getting through but IMO it can't possibly catch the germs and still allow air through. So I stopped using it and just use the bulb. But I may buy one for DD2 (and DD1, I guess, lol). Her congestion seems to have eased up today, now she's got a cough. Viruses can definitely make it through the sponge (they are smaller than the sponge pores). Thing is, it's a risk you take, because it works really well. Plus kids are always sneezing on you and wiping their snot on you and sicking their fingers in your mouth/nose. We used the nosefrieda religiously for awhile (lots of sickness between 3 and 9 months), and it was a lifesaver.
