@pastemoo: Thanks!! Maybe this is Xander too! I can't wait for the tooth (teeth??) to come through and him to start feeling better!

@butterbean: Yeah, if you don't think he's getting enough during the day and you can, I'd increase the bottle amount (or try to add another nursing session)!

@Adira: he's definitely not getting that magic number when we do bottles + nursing (hence the reason why i'm thinking about increasing his bottles)

on the weekend, he nurses at least 5 times from wake-up to bedtime (probably 15-20 minutes total per session). he'll still wake up in the MOTN to eat...for a couple of months he was STTN and out of nowhere (around 8 months), it's as if he doesn't want to STTN anymore...

sigh...i keep telling myself that this shall pass

My son stops eating solids (still!) when he is sick or with really bad teething. As soon as he's better or the tooth pops out, he eats solids again. So long as LO drinks milk, you're ok!

@Adira: i nurse him at least twice (when we get back from daycare and at bedtime). i'm trying to keep a feeding journal and see if i can notice any patterns (i'm a nerd)...so one Saturday, we just gave him all bottles (because i wanted to know the approximate total oz. he was consuming) and i think we found the magic number that he needed in order to sleep longer through the night...but am i ready to give up nursing and move to EP'ing?

sorry for my rambling :)

@Adira: He should still be getting his calories and nutrition from breastmilk at this age, so I wouldn't stress about not eating the exact same amounts of solids every day. I'm sure in a day or two he'll be back to eating them again! :)

My lo refused solids when his first teeth came in. we had just started solids and I assume the solids bothered him. We stopped and didn't worry about solids until the teeth were in and he went right back to eating.

@butterbean: Well, prior to this week, Xander was getting three 5oz bottles and nursing three times at home and that was definitely enough for him. How much do you nurse at home? And how is he on the weekends? And how old is your LO? Maybe he's going through a growth spurt? Maybe he's waking for another reason and isn't actually hungry?

@Adira: lol...i'm torn about increasing LO's bottles for daycare...lately he has been getting up in the MOTN a couple of times because he's hungry. at daycare, he gets three 5oz bottles and i nurse him the rest of the time. i was thinking of sending three 6oz bottles but i'm afraid he won't finish it and it'll just be liquid gold gone to waste OR i'm afraid that it's too much for him to consume at any one time??

@butterbean: Thanks! And yep, he's getting breastmilk and seems good about finishing his bottles! Plus he nurses great in the morning, although not as great in the evening, but he's been sleeping 10+ hours, so I'm assuming if he was hungry, he'd wake up to eat, right?

@edelweiss: I was thinking the same thing! If he doesn't eat all week, I think I'll decrease his bottles a little bit and see if that helps! And hopefully these teeth break through this week anyway and then we'll have that behind us!

@Adira: i think it's ok...as long as his primary nutrition is breastmilk...DS is has 2 meals a day + 1 snack (on top of his milk). He has no problem finishing his solids for lunch but for some reason it is a hit or miss getting him to eat his solids for dinner. I'm not too overly concerned with him not eating/finishing his dinner because he is at least finishing his bottles...

i don't think teething affected LO's eating, but i may not have been paying much attention! you could see how it goes after a week or so, but maybe instead of increasing only his bottles, you could do a combo of increasing his bottles (maybe by 5. to 1 oz) and also increasing his purees at the same time? i dunno. this whole eating thing is a mystery to me. we've been doing purees and BLW and despite what everyone says about how babies much prefer BLW, i actually think it's the opposite for LO. in fact i think his interest in finger foods has been decreasing!!

@Adira: Sickness would definitely affect eating. I'd try soft foods if you are worried about teething pain. Yogurt, cottage cheese, smoothies, bananas, blueberries, etc.

Teething did not affect B's eating. But the kid LOOOOVES to eat. Are you giving X teething medication that numbs his gums? If so, that might be affecting his eating.

As many of you know, Xander had a rocky start to starting solids and it took us quite a while to really get into it. But as of last week, he's had 1-2 solid meals a day and seemed to really be enjoying it.

Well, over the weekend, we weaned him of his dreamfeed, so I've been sending a little extra in his bottles to daycare to make up for it. Since then, he's refused to eat ANY solids all day. But he's also teething... so I'm not sure if he's not eating the solids because he's not hungry (each bottle has 1.5 oz more than before) or because he's teething (top two teeth are starting to come through) or if there's another reason!

Any thoughts? How did teething affect your babies eating? Do you think the extra milk in his bottles is making him too full for solids?
