@Beebug: I don't have much advice other than to adjust the bedtime (experiment with later and earlier as pp have suggested) but just wanted to say sorry you're having such an early start! 3.30am onwards is rough! Hope little C lets you have a lie in soon : )

@Rubies: Interesting, I am totally game, I just can't imagine her lasting (well) for a later bedtime as also suggested, but earlier, could be doable.

It's all worth a try and gosh knows it'll settle itself if we do nothing and just try to get through it!

@Beebug: I can't recall off the top of my head but I had read that an earlier bedtime can work to lengthen overall nightime sleep (how, I can't tell you right now...I'll have to find it). I would try more of a 6/6:30 bedtime.

@Rubies: Really eh? I have heard (seen/read!) this suggested before, by how much, and why (would it move the waking earlier?)

@Kemma: Glad you are going through something similar (though, not glad you're going through it, just that it's comparable to our situation :) )

We are SO going through this right now! Miss A might've dodged the four month sleep regression but the last month has been rough!

At the moment Miss A will wake up to nurse any time between 3 & 6, will put herself back to sleep for 45 minutes and then wake up again. I'm fairly sure it's related to teething as she's cutting her second top tooth so I've just been nursing her back to sleep then co-sleeping with her in her room. Generally speaking I'm not that keen on co-sleeping but we both need the sleep and I do enjoy snuggling with her (don't tell my DH!)

Hopefully this is just a phase and your LO will go back to her usual routine soon!

Hmmm about later bedtime, and/or awake time between last nap.

We don't let her sleep her last nap past 5pm, she will usually go down 3/3:30 or so for at least an hour.

Not opposed to bringing her in bed with us, I haven't tried since this started, but previous to that if I wanted an extra hour I'd bring her in and she'd sleep too, but most recently to that she just babbles and swats, lol. Could definitely try it again though and didn't think about that at all.

@artbee: Not opposed to later wake time, but know if we deviate from current bed time we get into "the danger zone" and she gets zombie'ish. She did go down later once last week with DH home late and it didn't make a difference in the waking that night....though it was just the one night.

@NovBaby1112: I agree it could be pain/teething, seems most likely at this point? Hmm.

@mrskc: I feel awful complaining about this, trying to remember it's just one waking, I need to get better at going to bed earlier so while this lasts I can be better for her when she does wake/want to stay awake!

Thanks Momma's!

Are you opposed to just bringing her to your bed at 5am? You both might get another 1-2 hours of sleep. Is her bedtime too early?

and I'm really jealous of her sleep. My 6 month old is up 3+ times a night.

OR maybe she is overtired when she goes to bed. how many hours of awake time is she having between last nap and bedtime? i read that babies can wake up very early if they are overtired before going to bed.

@Beebug: hmmmm...i'm wondering if maybe she is in pain from teething or something else going on? if you CIO'd and she goes down easily at bedtime, then she has no problem putting herself back to sleep it seems. if she is crying and crying it makes me think something else is going on and she just may need you for a bit. have you tried bringing her to bed with you at this early wake-up and seeing if your comfort/closeness helps her? if she conks out in your arms at this wake-up, it might just be a weird phase and will likely pass soon, but in the meantime it might help to just bring her to bed with you for a few more hours so you both get some more sleep.

Hi!

LO will be 6m Saturday (where did the time go)!

Mid-march we CIO sleep trained (and paci weaned) and went from 3-18 wakings per night to one (1!!!), and it was/has been unreal. So I feel insane + wacky for "whining" with our current situation!

LO goes to bed 7/7:30 ish. No crying, no problem, lay her down, zip her up in sleep sack, she babbles to herself for a bit and eventually conks out. She wakes anywhere from 3:30am to 5am for her bottle and absolutely will not go back to sleep after that waking.....unless.....I give the paci, and even then it's hit or miss (with run-ins to give it back to her -she chucks it across the room). The last week or so it has been this way, prior to this, she woke for the day 7-8am or so. If we CIO....she cries, and cries, and cries (hence trying the paci above), longer than any CIO session she ever did. It's an awful cry, I am good with most of her cries, but the later stages of this one is awful. I've picked her up and had her fall back asleep on me, and of course trying to lay her back down, she wakes. I always burp her exhaustively, and have tried not changing her to keep things lower key, always turn light off as soon as she's finished. Nothing in terms of our night feeding routine has changed. She napped 2x a day prior to this, but of course with this early waking, is now doing 3 naps per day.

I am totally okay with being up for the day anytime after 6am, I am a morning person, but anything earlier than that, I am just sort of not cool with....lol. Can I hope this is just (one of many!) phases she will evolve from? Or anything else you can think of that I could try?

Any thoughts or ideas would be much appreciated!
