Last summer we took a long trip down south to Virginia. Last leg of the trip was a 1.5 hour drive through a torrential flooding downpour. We diligently buckled Lala into her seat but forgot to buckle the seat into the car (we didn't have the base). So she took Mr. Toad's Wild Ride in the worst possible conditions in an area unknown to us, through thunder and lightning and flooding-- unbuckled in the car.

We were lucky that nothing happened!

On one of our first outings when LO was about a week old I totally never strapped the carseat in. In my defense, it wedges pretty tightly between the back of the front seat and the back seat, so it didn't even wiggle, but I was HORRIFIED! Needless to say, I've been paranoid about it ever since.

@winniebee: Nico is 3 months old today and I have done it TWICE.
1st time: We were going out for dinner, so I BF him in the car before we went into the restaurant, put him back in the carseat, and carried the carseat in. He had a blanket tucked on him and he fell asleep for the entire dinner (this was at 4 weeks old). After dinner, we clicked his seat back into the car and drove ON THE HIGHWAY, 2 HOURS to get home before discovering our error.
2nd time was yesterday:
I was packing for us to visit a friend and I almost drove away with the baby seat just sitting on the back seat bench (not in the base!). I clicked the seat into the base and thought I averted the crisis, only to discover when we got to the friend's house that I hadn't put the buckles on.

Maybe everyone does it once, but twice?

I did that with my nanny daughter!!! Ugh I was sick to my stomach when I realized. I had buckled her into her carseat, only her carseat wasn't fastened into the car! I was mortified with myself. Because it happened before DS was born I am paranoid about it so I always always double check now

Pretty close- I have left it very loose and forgot to tighten the harness before leaving when my son was about 2 months. It only took doing it once for me to remember to check every time I put him in the car. My routine now is to put him in the car, give him a kiss on the head and check his harness.

Today DS had a doctor's appt. He fell asleep at the very end in my arms so I put him in his carseat unfastened and planned to buckle him in once he was more asleep when we got to the car. We got home and he continued to sleep in his carseat for another hour. When he finally woke up, I realized I NEVER BUCKLED HIM IN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm so horrified! The ride from the doc to my house is 10 minutes....

Has anyone ever done something stupid like this?! (PS, my son is 2 months old only!)
