My parents are hosting and I will usually just ask what they want me to bring. This year my mom asked me to do pumpkin pie, but I'm not a plain pumpkin pie fan, so I made a no-bake pumpkin cheesecake. Minimal fuss which is awesome at almost 8 months pregnant. But now reading this thread I really wish I'd made macaroni and cheese to bring. We never have that at Thanksgiving but now I'm craving it.

We are going to the ILs for the weekend and Friday they're hosting a bunch of family friends for an apps/cocktails/desserts type thing, but didn't give us any suggestions on what to bring. I just grabbed a variety of crackers, some peppered jelly, and a cream cheese cranberry almond spread. Again, I'm taking the easy route!

@junebugsmama: she is so naughty when it comes to food! She once ate half a rotisserie chicken in 5 seconds flat. She can't be trusted with a turkey in the back of the car when she could climb over the seat and get it.

We do thanksgiving at my dads house and everyone brings their favorite dishes. We do corn casserole, pumpkin cheesecake, and a breakfast sausage braid for the morning. I make and bring the casserole and cheesecake before hand, and my dad picks up the ingredients for the breakfast so I cook it there. We don't eat until 430 since we have some family members who always work the holiday, hence a special breakfast to hold us over ;)

@catlady: oooooo comes in a can?! My favorite kind of frosting! I'm going to have to look into this! Good for you for preemptively starting the diet (I wish I would've...as both DSs had/have it pretty bad. Next baby for sure!) and EXTRA good for you to stay on the diet over thanksgiving! It'd be hard to not cheat when baby isn't even here yet!

My contribution is odd in that I'm not hosting but I bring the turkey and gravy. Luckily it's just a 20 minute drive. And I make DH drive really slowly and I keep our beagle on a short leash in the front seat :silly: I usually bring a dessert too but skipped it this year.

@bees_knees: I'm also using Paula Deen's recipe! I just bought a can of pre-made cream cheese frosting which doesn't seem to have dairy or soy in it. It does say "may contain milk" but there are no obvious ones on the ingredient list. My baby is not here yet (I'm preemptively starting the MSPI diet while pregnant since my last LO had it) so I wasn't too concerned about the "may contain" thing.

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: these artichoke tartlets. I can usually on get jarred artichokes, so that's what I use (drained and rinsed) and I use a lot more shallots than the recipe. They are also good with a sprinkle of cheese before baking.

Sorry to thread jack, but...@catlady: what kind of frosting are you using? We're also MSPI (my mom is making the entire meal MSPI friendly. Reason #83913 she's the best!!) I was looking at Paula Deen's pumpkin bar recipe and this frosting...but I've never tried it so if you have a recommendation I'd love it!

@lamariniere: the Veggie Tian you suggested a couple years ago was a big hit. I'm making that when my ILs come closer to New Year's. What else do you have up your sleeve?

We are flying to see my family, and my cousin is hosting. Last year I brought pumpkin cinnamon rolls for breakfast (baked at home, carried on the plane, warmed up in the morning and frosted when we got there)

This year I am bringing cinnamon roasted nuts (made yesterday, packed in my suitcase) and apple pie. I have the filling sugar and spices all premeaured and labeled, the crust made and frozen, and we will buy apples and butter tonight when we arrive. Tomorrow it's assembly and baking.

@T.H.O.U.: did she accept any of the dishes?

One year DH asked me to brings some things to MIL's and that didn't go over well, which I totally understand. He didn't clear it with her first and she was shocked or insulted to have dual stuffing, dual gravy, and another competing side.

If we aren't hosting and not told to bring anything we bring wine and sometimes beer. This year we are not hosting and my aunt asked me to bring mac & cheese and candied yams. We are still bringing two bottles of wine too. :silly:

This year, we're just going to my aunt's for dessert so I will be bringing pumpkin bars (MSPI-friendly so I can actually eat them).

In the past, we've gone to MIL's for a full meal and she usually requests some of her favorites. We tend to bring down corn bread casserole, one or two veggie sides, cinnamon babka, and sometimes an apple crisp or pumpkin pie.
