Interestingly, I was immune to mumps, but not measles and was right on the cusp for rubella.

I'm not immune either. I can't remember if they didn't check last pregnancy, or if I was still immune then or something, but I'll have to get the shot after this baby is born.

I wasn't immune with #1 and they gave me to booster before I left the hospital after she was born. Really easy and no issues.

I tested not immune to rubella when I was updating my vaccinations for school. Apparently pretty common!

Yep, immunity can go down for Rubella. Mine was down last year and they boosted it back up. Luckily, a year ish before I got pregnant. Some people just have to keep getting boosters (and a nurse told me that some people can get multiple boosters before their immunity is restored) and I think I remember my mum saying that pregnancy can also impact your levels so she was always checked after every baby.

I was tested when pregnant with LO2 and found that I was no longer immune. I was given an MMR booster after I gave birth, before I left the hospital. From what I understand I couldn't get the vax before the birth because it is a live vaccine (I had my LO in Austria though, so I don't know if the formula is different here than elsewhere).

@MamaBehr: The nurse from my OB's office told me I had lost my immunity too! So strange. She said I could get a booster when the baby is 3 months old.

I have tested non-immune more than once. It happens and is not a huge deal from what I remember. I just got another booster whenever they told me to.

@Ree723: Great info! Thank you so much :) I turned 32 this year, so that could totally be it.

@Foodnerd81: I am really good at picking out terrible doctors. At least I like this one (so far!)

@sapphire: thank you :)

Common to need a booster-that's why they test. Most people get the vaccine in the hospital before going home. The good news is that rubella has been irradiated in the US! But trasrs or those exposed to someone unimmunized could be at risk and it can cause fetal problems if you got it in pregnancy.

@MamaBehr: it sounds like you just need a booster, like @Ree723: said. Even if you have had different doctors I thought the first blood work was pretty routine though. And I don't think that's terrible that you've had four different doctors- it would be terrible if you kept going to one you hated or didn't get prenatal care at all. :)

My immunity to Rubella was low when I was pregnant with my first LO but I think I didn't get my booster until LO was six months old. I want to say it was a bit of a grey area as to when was safe to administer it when BF'ing a baby, so my GP recommended I wait until she was 6 months old. She may have been more comfortable allowing me to wait a bit because my immunity was only low, not completely gone, but I'm not sure. Either way, it was no big deal!

ETA: The MMR vaccine does wear off over time so it is not uncommon for people to lose their immunity to it. Also, I do believe the vaccine has changed over time making it more effective for longer; I'm in my mid-30s and I think I had the vaccines that were more likely to lose effectiveness over time....

@Foodnerd81: This is terrible, but I haven't had the same OB/GYN for any of my pregnancies! One pregnancy I found out I wasn't immune against fifth disease, but no other doctors told me about it (that was my second pregnancy). But this doctor said nothing about fifth disease. I wonder if I grew out of the immunization... and I need a booster?

@MamaBehr: how odd. Didn't they test you for your other pregnancies? I believe they tested me but never heard anything back, which means normal.

I just got my prenatal blood work back, and I'm not immune to Rubella. My OB/GYN said (in an online chart, I haven't spoken with her) that I would need to get that immunization after the baby is here. Anyone have any experience with this? Why wouldn't I be immune to this one?
