that's the opposite of what i do. having said that, LO gets really bad naps at daycare--many times he gets 30 minutes total. but he's still healthy and growing, and i'd like to think i'm not permanently damaging his brain.

Yikes! I can't even imagine Lo not napping at all during the day... He would be a nightmare at bedtime!!!

I would rather stick a needle in my eye than deal with how ridiculously overtired my DD would be if I didn't let her nap. But to each her own!

@travellingbee: I am very fortunate. Both of her sisters did the same thing by 2 months. Maybe they just know that their mommy is a cranky crank without good sleep and they don't want to deal with me hahaha ;)

@Smurfette: I told her that wouldn't work for us since he sleeps better when he naps and she was like, really?
@hilsy85: That was my thinking.
@Pumpkinspice: wow 12 hours! That's great! Whatever's working I guess! Your babe sounds like she knows how much she needs!

That is nuts! Babies need sleep during the day. When R doesn't nap at day care it breaks my heart cause I know she needs it. Not to mention she gets so crabby and fussy when she doesn't get a nap.

@BlueWolverine: Yeah. Mine too. He never seems to get enough!

I just wonder if it is OK for her baby..? To me, sleep is like food when they are babies. Can the baby survive on limited food? Probably. But will they develop as well, probably not. If her baby is only sleeping at night, how many hours could she be getting in? Surely not the 15 hours they are supposed to need... But maybe they don't all need that much.

That sounds insane and I feel really bad for her LO...babies NEED sleep for brain development. It sounds really selfish of her to keep her LO up during the day just so mom can get uninterrupted sleep at night, potentially at her LO's expense.

Anna will nap for hours during the day on some days and then maybe nap a total of 45 min during the day the next but she consistently sleeps 10 to 12 hours straight at night.
So, if it works for them then awesome.

My opinion: crazy pants. But if it works for her and her child, more power to her. I found that sleep begets sleep - the more LO slept during the day, the more she slept at night. At this point (6.5 mo) she's a raging beast if she doesn't get some sleep during the day.

I was at a mom's group yesterday, lamenting my 4 month old's sleep regression. As I was leaving, one of the moms (of a 3 month old) says to me, "You know what I do? I just don't let her nap during the day. I keep her up and play with her all day and if she falls asleep, I don't let her sleep for more than a few minutes. That way she is good and tired at night." This struck me as completely crazy since I feel like I spend all day trying to GET my kid to nap. I know everyone does things differently, but I thought all babies need to nap. I could be wrong...

What do you think?
