You are absolutely correct, he would be just fine with breastmilk. Babies have different needs for solids before one, and the only way to know what they need to is to follow their lead. If that's all he wants, he's good. He sure won't starve himself to death.

@plantains: thank you! he is happy - and big LOL he loves the boob!

@Crumbs: he's funny about food. He really likes a few bites of anything and is then done.

@runsyellowlites: going to look at kellymom tonight

DD is the same age as your DS and she's the same way. I also worry, especially since it's rare that she likes anything and we're super careful about potential allergies. So far she only really likes a type of fortified porridge they have here, but she needs variety and it doesn't always work.

For some reason, I thought she'd be devouring real food by now, but she's far from it!

@littlebittyhouse: yes! I feel the way you do. I am so worried about her getting enough iron, being satisfied etc.

Your LO looks so happy though, you are right one more bite does nothing in the grand scheme of things.

P didn't start eating solids of any measurable amount until after 10 months. Nutritionally, as long as baby is still gaining breastmilk is plenty adequate. Kellymom has some good info on solids & breastfeeding. I wouldn't stress.

@plantains: so hard not too! i keep remnding myself two things "food before one is just for fun " and "one more bite isn't going to provide this huge wealth of nutritional value"

My DD doesn't like food either. She would be happy with nothing but BM and avocado and banana puree for ever!

I have heard that overnight they star wanting to eat enormous amounts of food so we probably shouldn't worry.

LO is 8.5mo and is not really loving food. Somedays he will eat a whole pouch and then other days he'll only have a pancake strip, a few cheerios and a bite of sausage.

Is there a *normal* amount that babies eat at this age?

I try not to stress about it but sometimes I think he would be fine with mama milk and cheerios ha!
