@ShootingStar: No help, only commiseration. E will nap 20 to 30 minutes, tops, at daycare. And at home, he'll take anywhere from a two to three hour nap. So I know he has it in him. Some days we get the gnarliest kid back from daycare. :/

@ShootingStar: We had the same problem. On a good day, he napped for 45 minutes. Most days it was 20-30 minutes. Now that he's home with me for the summer, he happily naps for 1.5-2.5 hours, so I know he needs the sleep.

But, he was just too excited when he was at daycare to fall into a deep sleep. We tried sending in sleep sacks, Sleep Sheep, loveys. Nothing really worked. He's moving to a nursery school in the fall where they are old enough to all be put on the same nap schedule. I'm really hoping that when everyone's sleeping, he'll sleep too.

So, the good news is that we did survive the year on short naps by implementing an early (6:30pm) bedtime. But I do think it contributed to him getting sick and being cranky most of the evening.

I hope you find a way to convince him to sleep!

@ShootingStar: I would try sending a sleep sack or sending him in something warmer and seeing if it helps. M likes to be dressed warmly when she sleeps, too. Plus her room at daycare is chilly because of the a/c so I almost always send her in pants and socks and a short-sleeve onesie (then they put her in her zipadee zip for naps).

@lawbee11: He just had 2 teeth come through not that long ago. I don't think he's teething again yet, last time he was way crankier. He doesn't consistently sleep in a sleep sack. But you made me think that maybe he's too cold to sleep. At home we dress him warmly in fleece PJs because the AC makes his room colder than ours. I know he likes to be warm and I've been sending him in short sleeve/shorts rompers most days.

When he's with us, we can get him to nap. And he gets cranky after too much awake time, so I can't believe he doesn't start to fuss for them. Poor kid is so exhausted most nights :(.

@ShootingStar: Is he teething? If M is teething she usually takes really crappy naps at daycare (though she never takes stellar naps there). Does he sleep in a sleep sack at home? M does, so she naps better at daycare in her sleep sack, too. I told her teachers if worse comes to worse they can put her in the swing and see if she'll nap in there. It is frustrating for sure, but I have to remind myself there are 7 other babies in her class (not sure how many are in your LO's class), so there's only so much they can do, you know? It's hard in the infant room when they're all making noise and don't all nap at the same time.

Yes, I would be frustrated. That is definitely not enough sleep for that age. I would tell them they have to put him down for two naps a day...

I agree with you that they should be doing more, that just isn't enough sleep for a baby his age. How long do they leave him in his crib before they give up and take him out? I'm guessing probably not very long.

At that age my son was still on three naps a day. Is it possible to put him down more often? The other thing that messed with naps like crazy was a wonder week and we just had to wait those things out.

My 7 month old has been having a really tough time with naps at daycare lately. He's been having 1 nap a day, for roughly 20 minutes. I feel like this can't possibly be enough. Some days he passes out on the 15 minute ride home in the car because he's exhausted. The couple times I've brought it up with his teachers, they just tell me he's happy all day and when they put him in the crib he just plays and doesn't go to sleep.

I feel like daycare could/should be doing more to get him to sleep, but I'm not sure what to suggest. We've been sleep training him at night and lately he goes to sleep after rolling around the crib for <5 minutes.

Any suggestions on how I can bring this up with them? I'm also not sure if I should talk to the director since the teachers in the room haven't been very helpful.
