Thanks for the input. This cold is definitely different from the other ones. Learning to trust my mommy gut is hard. My mommy gut also thinks she's adorable and wants to stay home and play.

I'm also working through some major mom guilt because she got sick just after visit a dying relative in an old folks home. I had put off the visit as long as I could because I was afraid of bringing daycare germs there and LO getting assisted living germs. She and I didn't touch a single surface there with our hands but she got sick hours later. So I can't even be sure daycare has these germs.

Go with your gut. You know what is normal and what isn't. For us, chimichurri poop doesn't keep us out of daycare. Vomiting doesn't exactly either lol. But if we kept him home all of the time for that there is no reason to pay for daycare. If I had an important thing at work I would leave him. If it was slow I would give him more TLC.

I would go with your gut! We went through the same thing with daycare and colds (for 7 months straight). When things didn't seem "right" I would keep her home and one of us would stay home with her. When it was just a cold, I would send her willingly. She caught it there, she can give it back.

We did keep her home for a whole week once (my mom came in to help - she lives 3 hours away) because it just didn't feel right.

In the scenario you are in I would keep LO home as well.

Daycare doesn't allow LO back until diarrhea has cleared for 24hrs!

Do whatever you feel comfortable with. Like @Smurfette: said, you are paying regardless so that should give you the freedom to do what works for you!

I'd keep her home in your situation. If work is ok with it, and you don't feel comfortable sending her, keep her home and give her extra snuggles. :)

Its so tough deciding. I don't think any doctor or daycare can really tell you what is best. There are plenty of times I have sent my daughter when she wasn't 100% but I have also kept her home "just in case" too.

If you feel like she needs to be home then have her home with you. Day care can't tell you needs to come in. You are paying regardless if she is there or not, so what does it matter?

How do you know when it's ok to return sick LO to daycare? Am I being a silly first time mom?

Almost 6 month LO has been sick since starting daycare a month ago but got a particular bug on Saturday. First it was a fever, runny nose, cough. The fever broke Sunday morning but then she got pink eye and frequent BMs, 8 or so a day. We saw the doctor on Monday afternoon and got drops for the pink eye and found fluid in the ears. The doctor was not at all concerned about the BMs. She said it was not diarrhea. She recommended not treating the fluid in the ears unless the fever returns, in which case we would do antibiotics.

The doctor and I agreed I would keep LO home Tuesday as well for extra snuggles and to allow the full 24 hours on the pink eye. She was clear that daycare gave her the cold and daycare should have to deal with it. Both the doctor and daycare seemed to think she could have gone back safely though.

Yesterday the BMs turned bright green and got more watery, chimichurri-ish. She also coughed to the point of vomiting twice. I was glad I kept her home from daycare but planned to take her back today.

This morning her diaper was dry after 12 hours. That's never happened overnight before. She ate 3 times in that dry period. Right after I checked the dry diaper she had another chimichurri poop. I called the nurse advice line and the nurse told me to keep her home since she's probably more susceptible to other colds at daycare and could use some more TLC. I feel like the doctor we saw would say send her to daycare but I'm not going to pay the co-pay to hear it.

Everyone I talk to seems to think this is no big deal. My cousin with a newborn (her second) wants me to visit. The daycare director thinks LO should come in. I think they're nuts. Luckily, work isn't pressuring me to come in because my boss has a newborn and another woman in my group is immuno-compromised at the moment.

Should LO be back at daycare? Am I just being a overprotective?
