I'm late joining because I was keeping it so hush hush but here goes! What does your user name mean?: I initially was a TTC blogger before we took an extended break... so I chose a color for my handle! Describe your family? hmm... exciting? We have a pretty big extended family, both hubby and I are 1 of 5 kids so we have lots of siblings! His are older then mine in general so we also have a lot of nieces and nephews as well as some great nieces and nephews too! We also have a "thing" where we have babies in twos or more.... My brother's girl friend is due at the end of this month and I'm due in November :) A few years back, both of my sister-in-laws on hubby's side had babies within 3 months of each other too. What do you do for "you" time? Watch Netflix, read YA books (no judging) and excessive window/real shopping! Fun Fact? I was in London and Cape Town, SA within a same 24 hour period, which was pretty cool. I also had my photo taken with a random stranger on the Great Wall of China-- so that was kind of fun/weird/awesome :) What kind of birth do you want? One that includes some drugs... and preferably a quick one without to much craziness Will you go all natural? NO WAY. I just can't imagine the pain and I don't really want to... Are you planning on breastfeeding? absolutely, but I won't beat myself up if I can't. I know people who have done that and it makes me sad. Are you going back to work or SAHM? I have been laying low... started to feel a little superstitious or something, and was afraid to post again until I saw a tiny heartbeat. But that happened today, so I'm happy to start catching up again! Is this your first pregnancy/baby? This is #2 for both :) DS is 15 mos old. They will be just under 2 years apart. Will you find out the gender? Definitely... can't wait! What kind of birth do you want? I had a C section for my first baby, because he was breech. I'm going to try for a vaginal delivery but am open to whatever happens because I had a fabulous experience the first time around. Will you go all natural? No. Are you planning on breastfeeding? Yup! Are you going back to work or SAHM? I will be back at work, hoping to take 10 weeks off but not sure exactly how it will work out. IUI is intrauterine insemination, yes. The procedure itself is a lot like the annual pap smear you get, very quick and not too painful - except for the dang speculum :) The overall process begins when you have your first day of your period. On day 3 you have bloodwork and an ultrasound to see how many follicles you have in your ovaries and the bloodwork indicates your baseline numbers for estrogen. They also check your uterine lining thickness. Then you usually begin taking clomid (an oral medication to help with ovulation) on days 3 - 7. After you finish the medication around day 10 or 12 you come in for more bloodwork and an ultrasound. They take a look at how you responded to the medication and count the follicles again. Depending on how you respond, you schedule the IUI appointment and have to give yourself a trigger shot 36 hours before the procedure. This shot is taken in the stomach, and the needle is really small. So even though I was initially freaked out - it's not too bad. The day of the IUI your husband has to deliver a specimen 90 minutes prior to the IUI appointment. It's washed and prepared. And then you show up, they tell you how awesome your husband did :) and then you receive the specimen and lay there thinking super good, positive thoughts. Bravelle is an injectable follicle stimulating hormone that you inject into your stomach. While I was on clomid I wasn't producing enough follicles, and I was ovulating too early. Using Bravelle allowed my doctor to monitor me more closely - with a LOT more bloodwork and ultrasound appointments - but I think ultimately all of the timing worked out a lot better. Too much of an essay? Hope not :) It's kind of hard to explain it in a short and sweet manner. Everyone reacts differently to all of the different fertility treatments that are out there. I'm so thankful that we were able to find one that worked for us. Is it how I imagined getting pregnant? No. But am I happy that I'm pregnant? Hell yes :) First ultrasound is this Friday. Here's a little backstory for those of you that don't know me on HB. My husband and I have been trying to conceive our first child for 20 months. At the 13th month mark we started to work with an RE. During all of the diagnostic testing they found a uterine fibroid and removed it via hysteroscopy back in the fall. Since then, we had a few cycles to recover, and then begin Clomid/IUI. My first two IUI cycles with Clomid were unsuccessful. I am currently pregnant for the first time from my 3rd IUI treatment with the injectable drug, Bravelle. I saw my first ever two lines on March 19th. But because of this long journey, I was cautiously optimistic. I had my first beta and it was a 46.5. Positive, but still low. My second, 172. Good - doubling. But back for a 3rd, and it was 470. Ok - doubling. And today...my 4th beta is 2449!!! Wahooo!!! I feel like I can finally breathe. I am supposed to be starting nursing school in the fall.
