Our baby just has a fat neck and I have funky bloodwork. </p> <p>BUT the bloodwork is *still* indicative of a possible heart defect. I'm continuing to get ultrasounds and a fetal echocardiogram to rule out the possibility that she has a heart defect. If anything is wrong, I most certainly want it diagnosed and I want the right specialists on hand at the birth to do the surgery. Sometimes, there's more to it than just the big chromosomal issues they are looking for--sometimes the bloodwork is indicative of other potential issues. </p> <p>Look at it this way: 1/676 chance translates to 0.15%. That's incredibly low. I didn't want the risk of the amnio (however small) so I did the MaterniT21 blood test. I think our insurance covered a lot of it and we paid about $250 out of pocket. We opted for the MaternT21 test which confirmed our daughter did not have any trisomnal abnormalities. It was just a non-invasive blood test. Maybe ask your doctor about it? I'm just being realistic. I had an ultrasound that came back with amazingly negative news(whole in bowel, cleft pallet, along with a few other concerns). I ended up having a perfectly healthy baby boy. She opted to not have an amnio. She did however receive more ultrasounds and saw specialists. I have 2 friends with daughters who have DS. One of them had stats of 1 in 876 and the other as 1 in 7500. </p> <p>You're always at risk regardless of the stats. We opted for CSV and the test results came back that we had a normal baby and my odds were much worse than yours. If you don't plan on doing CSV or amino you will probably have additional ultrasounds to monitor the baby. The US looked good with present nasal bone and 2 mm nuchal fold. The bloodwork came back and I was informed by a nurse over the phone-- 1 in 18,000 for trisomy 18 and 1 in 676 for Down Syndrome--wait, what? 1 in 676? Most other people my age (27) seem to have 1 in 10,000 + ratings...where did this 1 in 676 come from? Obviously I need to discuss the results with my OB, but has anyone experienced a similar probability? We do not want further testing and will keep and love this baby with any outcome, I just was expecting (perhaps stupidly) a much lower probability. I know it is still low and the chances of an abnormality are, well, 1 in 676...but I am still a bit rattled. </p>
