Sometimes a false positive on the blood test can indicate placental issues. I had a 1 in 32 quad screen result, but the MaterniT21 test came out fine. Later in the pregnancy we discovered my placenta was maturing much faster than it should and I was induced for IUGR. My Lo was fine, but was very small. She left the hospital with no nicu time at 4 lbs 11 oz. Just something to keep an eye on!

YEA! I worried the quad screen was high for spina bifida (which the cell-free DNA test doesn't test for). It is very unlikely there is T21 with a negative cell-free DNA test. I would have also refused the amnio at this time.

@zarzar: I am glad you got some reassurance from your doc! I honestly would not worry about the blood serum. The panorama checks for a large variety of chromosomal defects and I have heard so many stories of blood serum showing false positives (or false high risk). The odds of a healthy baby are so good for you! Hugs!

@blackbird: @mrscobee: @2littlepumpkins: @Ms.Badger: @Torchwood: @marionberry:

Thanks ladies, for your words of encouragement. The doctor just called me back and it turns out that the blood serum test is what is driving my result to be higher risk. The risk for Trisomy 21 came back at 1:53. However, the Panorama came back at 1:10,000 for the same thing. The NT scan came back normal, with the back of the neck measuring normal. Since the Panorama measures cells from the baby's DNA, I'm going to find comfort in that measurement. The doctor did mention that 20% of the time the standard blood results come back that way, it could mean there might be other chromosomal defects that are not tested for. She offered the amniocentesis test as a diagnostic, but for now DH and I are going to hold off since we are able to rule out the major things with the Panorama result. It wouldn't change our path with the pregnancy anyways, and we will love our little bean no matter what.

Agree with all of the above. We didn't even have the NT scan, because we had the Panorama and it's more accurate. Our results were also low risk, and she looked perfect on the anatomy scan, so I really think you're good.

I know it's hard but just hold off getting too anxious until you talk to your doctor. Neither tests are diagnostic, just screens. If your doctor is concerned, I'm sure they will order the appropriate diagnostic test for you. Hugs

I too would go with the Panorama results over the NT test/ first tri blood. I think Panorama is designed to be more accurate right?

@zarzar: If it was the blood results, the blood results of Panorama are supposed to be much more accurate. And what @blackbird: said is correct about Panorama being used to rule out problems. I would think that everything should be just fine, but sorry you are stressed :(

The blood test is far more accurate than the NT scan, which only gives vague possibilities. Usually you do a blood test to rule OUT problems the NT may indicate

@marionberry: It was so frustrating because the tech would give us zero details and said we would need to talk to our doctor to discuss the results. It seems like it might be the blood results, because the tech commented the back of the neck was "normal". She had a hard time getting a picture of the nasal bone because the baby kept dancing around, so perhaps it could be that.

Usually the Panorama is ordered after the NT scan to show whether or not you should worry. I'd think you are in the clear. What about your first trimester screening gave you the high risk result? And what were the exact chances they gave you?

We elected to do both the first trimester combined screening (blood test + NT scan) and the Panorama (NIPT). We got our Panorama results back on Monday, at low risk and a baby girl! We were over the moon! Today, I went into do the NT scan and the results there came back as high risk :sad:

The doctor had told me that the NIPT is 99% accurate so should I feel assured that all is okay? I left a message for the doctor but likely won't hear back until tomorrow. I'm worried sick!
