@2PeasinaPod:

@mrsf: thanks for the info ladies! i found out the 2 codes for the ultrasounds but they said the bloodwork would be through quest diagnostics which is a different code system they don't have access to. I'll at least check in again with tufts now that i have the codes.

and for anyone thats wondering, the codes are 76813 & 76801 for the NT scan and regular ultrasound scan.

Thanks!

It all depends on your employer's version of the plan. I would call your physician, get the billing codes and ask for a pre-determination letter from Tufts based on those billing codes. You might have to wait for it to be mailed to you, but you might be able to ask them to email it to you.

@MrsF: thanks for the response! we're you considered "high risk" or was it just part of a routine appointment? I know they definitely cover it if you're considered high risk but nobody could figure out if its covered for everyone regardless of risk factor.

That sounds really strange. I don't have the same plan as you do - but my plan is administered by Tufts and everything was covered.

I just got off the phone with both my doctors office as well as my health insurance (Tufts HMO Advantage) and i've come away with the conclusion that the NT scan and bloodwork "might" be covered. Basically different documents say contradicting things and even the insurance rep was confused.

Does anyone here have the Tufts HMO Advantage plan and was your NT scan and bloodwork covered?

My Dr. didn't even mention that it was an optional test and after i asked she said if i opted out of it then i wouldn't get a single ultrasound until 20 weeks. Not even a dating scan. I'm currently 11w4d. This just seems ridiculous to me.
