The doctor looked at the scan/nuchal measurement right after the scan and said it looked perfect. Then we just had to wait 3-4 days for the bloodwork to come back. But from what I understand, the bloodwork and nuchal measurement work together to give you a rough risk factor. Generally if the measurement is fine the bloodwork will be too (I think?).

During our scan the tech just took all the measurements and pointed a few things out but was kind of quiet. I kept asking "is that good?" and "is that normal?" Luckily then when the doctor came in she explained that everything was! I tend to be super anxious so I was nervous during the scan but honestly it was the best to see our baby!! My OB takes blood then and 4 weeks later and compares BOTH for the blood test results (to avoid false positives) and so about a month later I found out my blood tests were all negative too, so good! If you aren't sure if you should do it or not, think about if they did find out something was wrong with your LO. Would you be glad to know, or wish you didn't? I am the kind of person who would rather know/prepare so it was worth the anxiety for me! GL!

She told us everything looked good right away after the scan, but we had to wait to know for sure until we got the bloodwork in.

The doctor told us that everything looked good immediately after the scan. Because we had a chromosome abnormality in a previous pregnancy, we did the MaterniT21 blood work instead of the quad screen (it also tests for sex chromosome issues like the one we had before). It took exactly a week to get the blood test results and everything was normal. It has allowed me to breathe a little easier during a pregnancy following a m/c.

We got the scan results quickly but waited for the blood tests for a week. I found that having a clean scan freed me to be less stressed during my pregnancy.

I also wanted to see the baby, but the measurements and bloodwork weren't ideal so we ended up doing generic testing. It was scary but everything was fine in the end! And we did find the gender out early (silver lining, I suppose!)

My doctor looked at the measurements the ultrasound tech took. Said everything looked normal but it was another week before they called with blood results saying everything was ok.

It was a little nerve wrecking for me in that I tend to always think, "what if"... but the first time, the tech was pretty nice about sharing the measurement findings right away and giving me a little peace of mind that it should turn out all right. Blood test results came back 5-7 days later. Sort of sucks waiting for those, but, I think that turnaround time is common. With my second, we just so happened to get a tech who wasn't really that talkative about the results, so it was a little bit more worrisome til a doctor could confirm the findings... Some techs are just more willing to discuss what they see than others...

I knew one person who had results come back with some worrisome numbers. Unfortunately, it caused a lot of stress (as you could imagine!). Her Dr had her speak to a genetic counselor more in depth about it and other testing she could do. Thankfully, her baby came out perfectly healthy in the end.... But yes, it caused much stress for her throughout her whole pregnancy. However, she handled it great, IMO.

Our technician couldn't give us any definitive results, as to get the most accurate risk level, they need to combine your blood test results with the scan results, but she showed us all of the indicators that were very good signs for a healthy baby (nuchal folds well within the normal range, evidence of a nasal bone, and I can't remember what else). I left that scan feeling pretty good and it was only confirmed a couple of days later at my GP appt when they'd analyzed my blood test results and given us excellent test results.

I know a few people who have come back higher risk but all has turned out fine. I'd still recommend the testing, it was nice to have peace of mind and super fun t see the baby!

I had the same experience as @lawbee11. We got the results of the scan immediately but had to wait about a week for the blood test results.

I was definitely nervous during the scan, but I was really glad we had it done.

We didn't get our bloodwork results immediately. We had the NT scan then had an appt with the OB right afterwards. The tech didn't tell us anything--just took the measurements and pointed things out to us. The OB is the one that actually told us the measurements were within the normal range and he didn't see the need for any further testing unless something abnormal came back with my bloodwork (luckily it was all good!).

I know a lot of people that have gotten it and no one that has "screened positive" so no unnecessary scares, if that makes you feel any better.

I had one with my son, screened negative and he was born without DS. There is a history of chromosomal abnormalities in my family so I'll do it again with this pregnancy :-)

All scans are covered by ours insurance, and although we don't have the risk factors for DS, I think I'd like the NT scan to see the baby again. I just wonder if we're setting ourselves up for un-certainty. Are the results from a NT scan immediate? Did any techs leave you with a not-so-certain feeling or false fear? I just don't want to open a can of worms if its just for my own wanting to see the baby.
