I found out when I was 10 weeks pregnant this time because I thought I had stomach bug! I haven't had a cycle since August 2011. I didn't really think about it at all. I also am not a big drinker so I wasn't too concerned either way

@Dagny: My daycare provider got pregnant with #2 and #3 while breastfeeding the previous kid, so she hasn't had a period in FOREVER. So, it's totally possible!

I was NTNP while BFing, and only tested if I planned on drinking. It wasn't often, but I figured I'd be able to tell by 12 weeks pregnant or so ;) Haha. I ended up getting my periods back before getting pregnant again, so I didn't have to worry about it for too long.

Thanks @MRSMCCARTHY - I should probably look for some cheap pregnancy tests. I've only ever used First Response. Yeah, I'm not planning on weaning anytime soon, so we'll see if I get KU without doing so!

@MAE - Yeah, that is one of the things that has been annoying. I don't drink much, but occasionally I enjoy a nice beer and I've just been hoping I'm in the clear. :-)

Seems like a good plan. Although I'd prob also test before any time you were going to do something you wouldn't do if pregnant-- like if you planned to have a few drinks.

My feel is that it's worth it to have cheapee tests on hand so that you can check things out. One good thing about breast feeding is that it usually means you are still on a prenatal and avoiding most things that could be potentially harmful to a pregnancy. I know a lot of people who have caught the egg before getting their first period PP (my younger sister was am example of this) but some are like me and need to wean even if they do have a period. I think wondfos have been a bit wonky and unrealizable but there is another test that starts with a P and is very sensitive that people are using now. Supposed to be almost as cheap. Maybe someone will step in here and say the name as its slipped my mind. Good luck!

I am 13 months PP, still breastfeeding a ton (every couple hours and LO nurses while co-sleeping for a few hours early in the morning; he also wakes occasionally to nurse earlier in the night) and have not got my period back yet. We are currently NTNP and are not interested in actively trying right now, but would like to get pregnant (it would probably take a long period of NTNP and no pregnancy for us to actively try - we just prefer not to do that). In an ideal world, I would only take a pregnancy test if I was really suspicious that I was pregnant, BUT I am excited and ancy about the possibility of being pregnant again and I want to test every once in a while.

My questions are (1) has anyone else been in this boat before and (2) how often would you test?

Obviously I don't want to break the bank and test all the time and I really want to try to be laid back about this, but since I have no clue when I'm ovulating (and don't want to chart) I have to test randomly. I'm thinking I should set a date every month and try to stick to that. Thoughts?
