I consider us NTNP because I'm not actively hoping for a baby. I would love any baby I get if I do get pregnant though. When I was TTC I was obsessing over when I was fertile, when I could pee on a stick, tracking cycle lengths, etc. Now, when I say I'm NTNP, I just really don't want to go on birth control, but would also be perfectly fine not getting pregnant for quite a while (even a little bit hoping I don't).

Totally agree with @wonderstruck.

Not preventing=TTC in my opinion....but agree that it's definitely a mental thing for some people! But that's just putting a new bow on the box :)

I think of it more as a mindset. When I'm NTNP, it's a more casual, no effort sort of thing. Just sex (even if i know when I ovulate). And I'd be excited to get pregnant but not disappointed if I don't.

When I'm TTC, I'm disappointed if whatever we are doing doesn't work.

@wonderstruck: @yoursilverlining: more so agree with you guys.
When I got pregnant with DS, I guess we were doing NTNP according to most people because I didn't temp, use OPK's or track CM, or anything that people consider more for TTC. But, we wanted to get pregnant, and to us, we were trying. If we weren't trying, we would have used BC. I am so completely regular with my cycles, so I always knew when I was ovulating so we knew that's when we had to DTD to get pregnant.

@pui: agree!

DS was conceived that way. We just DTD whenever it struck us with no concern at all.

I have used opk's for two months and have tried to have sex around positives but it hasn't worked that way for us. So we don't really BD in a way that I think I should if we were so very serious about TTC. So while we are kind of trying, we aren't putting our all into it. Therefore I feel a little halfway between NTNP and TTC. But if I'm not pregnant in the next week, then I will be fully TTC. Like BDing every day.

We NTNP for 9 months. Once LO was born, we didn't use any sort of BC when we had sex. we knew it was possible to get pregnant and weren't trying to prevent. But I wasn't tracking my cycles or truing to have sex on certain days. Once we decided we wanted to actually get pregnant, I started charting and using OPKS.

My opinion on it is generally not too popular around here, but in my eyes they're pretty much the same thing - if you're choosing to not use BC and just get it on whenever, you're pretty much setting yourself up to be pregnant. However, I'm sure my view on this is affected by the fact that DH and I never had to track cycles or my ovulation dates or anything, I got pregnant the very first time we didn't use BC and we considered ourselves to be trying at that point because we did want a baby.

Agree with @Pui. I think you cross over to "trying" whenever you are aware of ovulation and have sex purposefully.

For us, NTNP was just not using any form of BC. we got down whenever we felt the need.

TTC then added in temping, tracking CM, etc. to make sure you DTD at the right time. Basically exactly what @pui: said!

I consider us NTNP even though I track my cycles and we will sometimes DTD when FF estimates I am ovulating. Until I start charting or use OPKs or drop everything to BD during the "right" times neither of us consider us TTC.

What @pui: said.

For me, I find it pretty impossible to NTNP because I have obvious ovulation signs. So I know when I'm fertile. So I know, if I have sex when I'm fertile there's a good chance I'll get pregnant!

For me, NTNP meant having unprotected sex whenever we wanted without concern on whether or not it's the best time to conceive. Being TTC means timing sex, or at least having sex specifically to conceive.
