It wasn't until I was a teen and refused protection that I had a few burns. My mom was always vigilante about putting on sunscreen. And it takes me a lot of sun to burn... I usually just get a really dark tan. I only remember once as a teen in vacationing in FL that I was out all day and refused sunscreen and had a mild burn bad enough to peel. The worst time was in grade school during a sports tournament. It likely happened at every beach/park party (our parks were always near a beach) while I was young, but not as bad. I think my worst burn ever was in college though. I went out on a long bike ride one morning (not thinking I needed sun screen that early in the day) and ended up with a major sunburn in which my back skin was bubbling up and peeling off! My mom sunscreened me but sometimes you get busy and forget to reapply. I've definitely had more than 5. Way more. As a matter of fact "peeling the skin" used to be one of my favorite things. I clearly remember one, and maybe there were a few more too? What's crazy is that I don't think I ever used sunscreen until I was an adult.
