@Mrs. Lion: I have to self-inject into the abdomen so I don't know if I could handle the bigger needle. Worth a try though. God I hate those shots, I keep hoping someone will find a pregnancy safe alternative (like a mist, or cream, or something applied using butterfly wings).

@Little Misters Mom: My nurse solved the burning when it went in problem by using a bigger needle. That way the shot goes in much faster so I don't notice it as much! Its a really big needle though....good thing I don't have to watch!

Thanks for sharing. I wish I'd had this for my lovenox shots! But the worst part for me was the burning when the medicine when in. Does this help for that as well, or just the acute pinch of the needle?

ETA: Just saw your last post re: burning. Awesome, I'm going to tuck this away for next baby.

@FliegepilzHut: It is prescription only. Icing was tough since i go into the office for the shots. But the biggest issue i was having was really painful burning for about 24 hours after the shots, and ice didn't help that at all (neither did heat, massage, or anything else i had tried). This stuff almost eliminated it, and i only used it the one time right before! I was pretty excited.

I've had lidocaine cream and shots before for dental work (amongst other things). Super effective :)

I've not tried it-- I bet it's prescription-only. Were you icing before?

So Wednesday a nurse from my OB practice called me to tell me she had found a numbing cream that was safe to use during pregnancy and that would hopefully help with the pain associated with my weekly shots! OB prescribed it, and I tried it yesterday. I have had 8 shots so far, and this one, by far, hurt the least, during and after the injection!

It is called Lidocaine and Prilocaine Cream. It is pretty amazing, so I thought I would share. I would imagine it would help with all progesterone shots (maybe all intramuscular shots?), not just the ones to prevent preterm labor.

Has anyone else tried this stuff??
