I used to keep it cracked until I heard somewhere its safer to keep it closed since a closed door offers more protection in the case of a fire (outside the room). Maybe silly but that's plenty reason for me :)

Closed for naps and at night, don't want any noise waking him up. I also keep his window closed, but that's because I don't want any bugs flying in (no screens). We're on the 6th floor of an apt building so I don't think anyone could get in!

Closed at night, during the day for naps mostly open. This it to keep the cat out while we sleep cause I found her in the crib and about had a heart attack. But I get what you are saying about the windows being open. We use to have our windows open all the time when weather permitted ( we are in FL). But when LO got here the end of Dec, we stopped sleeping with the windows open. I know our area is safe and all but it doesn't feel right to me. So when she was a newborn we had the heat on just to keep the house comfy for her and now we have the air on all the time. If its a nice morning I will open the slider and let some fresh air in while we are up.

Closed, because when our central heating turns on any door that's not fully closed will slam shut. And that definitely would wake him up!!

we open his and our doors wide right before we go to bed. the only reason though, is that the only thermostat in our apt is in our room, so while our room will get nice and warm from our body heat, his room will stay cold since the heater won't kick in properly. we don't leave any windows open at night! too cool and damp where we live :) i'm not too worried about noise because his room is on the other side of our (small) apt. :)

When LO was a newborn we kept his door opened and our door opened as well. His room is right across from ours. Once he was older we cracked his door open (maybe around 6 months old). As a toddler his door remains closed but he can open it and come into our room in the mornings.

we used to open it when we went to bed and keep our door open at night when Ria was a little baby. Now we close their door because I don't want her to wander at night. I don't like their window open after I go to bed. Last year a kid in our province was stolen from his room at night (was safely returned, it was amazing) and I am so paranoid now.

We installed a nice swing baby gate so that the door itself can remain open, but the room can be closed off. It was actually at the recommendation of our vet to help or dogs adjust to LO (she wanted us to install an actual screen door but we are renting and couldn't plus or dogs are small and can't jump the gate)....this way everyone is able to see in at baby and know what is going on, so they can feel included without being right there...I also like it so I can always see in myself.
