@lauraeabel: I bet it would be great! I also love how we're all dying to see your nursery :)

I agree on both the keys and the lettering. It is going to be so pretty!

@runnerd: I love those!
@wonderstuck and @mrs. 64 - I've seen some adorable Harry potter mobile ideas- the easiest to recreate is the key idea. I like the idea that it's like butterflies! Hadn't thought of that.

I LOVE @wonderstruck's idea with the keys!

Your nursery sounds so fun! The other thing you could try would maybe be lots of books as decor to play into Hermione's character? Maybe some interesting looking plants that you might see in a herbology class? I also like the idea of putting up posters of female character's interests.

Love the idea about adding some gold and crystal type stuff. And how about incorporating the winged keys from the Sorcerer's Stone? Kind of like a play on butterflies in a more typical girl's nursery.

Wow, I'm excited about your nursery! DH would never let me do something like this. Have you looked for pictures on google images or pinterest? I found this cute mobile and some other good inspiration: http://followpics.net/keys-with-wings-from-harry-potter-and-the-sorcerers-stone-mobile-harry-potter-themed-nursery/

@rattles: one of the main reasons I have loved the books for so long is the amount of amazing female role models, so
I'm not sure why I hadnt thought to include them.

And thanks! I will definitely post pictures once we get ourselves in gear

I think it sounds like a fabulous, neutral nursery/theme! I wonder if you could do a big, metallic mirror a la the mirror of Erised? I agree with others that gold touches will help, but I think it's an inherently neutral theme. I like that about it!

We want to leave the carpet at least for now- it's in great shape, and it will make entering the room without waking her much easier, since you can't hear footsteps.

I was thinking of doing either light gray or pale yellow walls to offset the dark carpet, since it's a small room., and like @swirlygurl said, dark colors come of as kind of masculine.

Good idea on the touches of gold @mae, that might help a lot. I think it's definitely gender neutral in theory, but all the inspiration pictures I've found are boys rooms so I started second guessing myself.

Harry Potter nursery. Swoon.
I agree with light gray walls. Adding metallics will make it girlier, too.
And...once the closet's filled with girl clothes, gender neutral won't be an issue ;)

do you plan to leave the dark carpeting? If so I'd go with a light/neutral wall light a pale grey. Harry Potter seems pretty gender-neutral to me, but if you wanted to make it more feminine maybe add more touches of gold/crystals to the room?

Harry Potter nursery!!! AMAZING!

Snowy owls might girly it up? Keep the walls a light gray as opposed to darker shades will keep it fresher and lighter (not actually girly, but maybe darker colors would seem more masculine? idk)

Okay, so I'm hoping maybe some of you are more design capable than me, and can give tips on this.

When my husband and I bought our house, there was only one room without hardwoods- the smallest bedroom has thick, dark maroon carpeting, and we instantly knew it would be a Harry potter nursery one day.

Well now we are expecting a baby girl, and while we still have our hearts set on that as a theme, I'm having trouble finding ways to make the room more girly. It's not like I would ever have wanted an explosion of pink for a girls room, but I would like it to be a little bit feminine.

Any advice?
