No, my BF is the one who told me about the recommendation of WHO until 2, and she has a toddler the same age as mine. We are both still nursing at 22 months. Not sure anyone else knows, not because I keep it quiet, just not brought up I guess.

I'm tandem nursing my newborn and 2.5yo and the only person who "disapproves" is my Dad but even he's not that worried about it. I know 2-3 other ladies who are nursing toddlers and to be honest although I haven't nursed my toddler out of the home for months I just don't give people the opportunity to be negative about it.

@stargal: I only know maybe 2-3 people who nursed as long as we did, but most people seemed to think up to one year was very normal. My area is very pro breastfeeding though.

I nursed C until 20 months. Around the year mark I got a lot of questions about when I planned to stop, and I think because *I* felt insecure about it, people felt ok kind of discouraging continuing and or saying she didn't need it anymore. Once I got more confident with my response (it's still working for us and there are still health benefits for both is us so we will go on as long as it's working) people started being more like, oh that's great, good for you.

So yeah I mostly got positive or neutral comments, but she was only nursing at home for the last several months, so it only came up with people I was closer to- though I was surprised by some of the people who asked, like my fil.

I nursed until 19 months and never heard a negative thing (we only nursed once a day after a year, so it was no longer in public, but I was very open about it.)

I keep it mostly to myself. It came up in convo with mylittle sis who is pregnant with her first now and she was surprised but supportive. I know my mom would probably tell me dd was too old but I don't care! I haven't seen her for a few months (dd is only 14 months) so no chance for her to voice her unsolicited opinion yet. My i laws would never say a word and would only support us-love them!

My last day nursing was yesterday. My son is 13 months old. I got the feeling from everyone they thought I was way overdue to stop. I don't know anyone who did it as long as me. Most people I know didn't at all or for a couple of months, so they probably thought I was nuts :silly:

I haven't gotten any negative reactions. The only place I regularly nurse her outside our house is daycare, though, because when I show up at the end of the day she immediately demands "MIK! MIK!" So her teachers know she still nurses, and they're very supportive. We've had a couple of DH's friends visit in the past few months (both single, 30-ish guys) and I figured they'd be a bit weirded out when I took DD to her room for "MIK!" but they both seemed oblivious.

I'd never gotten a negative comment from anyone until just recently--my in-laws were in town for dd's first bday party and I was nursing lo away in her room, but they heard me say "ow!" when lo pulled my hair (which she loves to do while nursing, siiiiigh....) and assumed that she'd bit me (which she is yet to do, actually!). later mil was like "she has teeth now, stop nursing" umm no

eta: I also wanted to add a positive experience--some very close family friends (like, lived across the street, their sons are like my other brothers) met dd this weekend for the first time and the mom asked how long I had breastfed, and when I said I still was she sounded surprised but said "good for you!" (actually, she might have been surprised bc lo was drinking cows milk from a cup during the visit)

no, but by the time she was a toddler, we didn't have need to do it in public. but i never heard anything about it from family or friends. i also didn't really leave it up for discussion or a time for them to comment, i don't think.
