@mrsd: Strangely, I was super zen about this whole thing. It's about supply and demand, so I figured my supply would expand or contract to fit LO's needs. If they could figure out not to produce a bunch of milk M-F from 9-5, they could figure out to produce extra milk in the mornings and evenings. Trust the boobs
That being said, she was also 14 months old, so she was getting most of her calories from solid food. And while I can't really remember, I sort of want to say that she would pop herself off when she was done, but I can't guarantee that is accurate.

@merriment: @MsLipGloss: Maybe a silly question but how did you feel comfortable that LO was getting enough milk in those AM/PM feeds? Just kept your fingers crossed and unless LO was fussy/obviously still hungry assumed you were good?

I was able to do this. I stopped pumping at work over the course of a month (so I was done pumping at work when she turned 14 months). I continued to nurse in the evenings and the mornings and all day on the weekends.
I didn't do anything special...I just blindly bulldozed forward and assumed my boobs could figure it out.
There were a few weeks of feeling a bit "full" by the end of the workday on Monday, but that subsided after a few weeks.

Definitely those first few weeks of pumping at work, my body was adjusting to it and the amount I got fluctuated daily! But I just had a goal of 15oz a day and would pump as much as I had to to meet it. Some days that meant my three sessions (AM before work, twice at work) were enough. Sometimes it meant I had to pump after our 6:00 and 9:00 nursing sessions! I would definitely add in a pumping session! It should help increase your supply and hopefully get you that little extra each day. Good luck!!! Pumping is HARD work and I commend you for even doing it! <3

the first few weeks of pumping def took a hit on my supply, but we were able to get it back up with power pumping at home and nursing outside of work hours. we thankfully made it to a year! as i started weaning and cutting out pumping sessions, i did it gradually (going from 3 pumps to 2 to 1) and still kept nursing while weaning from the pump, then eventually got down to AM/PM sessions. It is def possible to still nurse even if you decide to stop pumping! congrats to you for making it this far, BFing is hard!

my supply also dropped when i started work. i don't think it necessarily means it will follow a downward trajectory until it hits zero--it may just drop a bit and plateau. don't be discouraged! i had a month or two where my supply was not meeting his daycare bottle demand, so i supplemented his bottles each day with a few oz of formula. then, in the past couple of months (he's almost 11 months old), as he has gotten more proficient with eating solids, i'm pumping more than he eats.

during the time that my supply was lower, i did add a pumping session to help increase my supply (which i think worked after a couple of weeks)--however you are already pumping 3x/day, which is a lot!

My LC told me to make sure I pump at least once after 10pm, something about the hormones and encouraging my body to make more milk. I usually do my last pump before bed at 10:30, but I'm not back to work yet and definitely not waking up at 5am so I would do what works best for you and your family!

@MsLipGloss: that is great to know, I'd be so happy if I could be as lucky! I always wanted to make it to 6 months EBF but it just seems like its not going to happen so I'd love to be able to at least have that time with her in the AM/PM

@Mrs D: Nope! And, fwiw, my supply was never that great, so I didn't know if I really could. But it was no problem. I just gradually dropped pumping sessions during the day (starting at around 8 months), and just kept up nursing morning/night.

I stopped pumping right around 10 months, and continued to BF morning and night until 15 months (sometimes on the weekends I would BF more than just morning/night).

So...although I feel more like a failure than I thought I would..I'm am strongly considering stopping pumping. I am trying to figure out if there is any chance I will be able to continue nursing K. Here is the background:

-EBF since birth, no issues
-First week at work (last week) I got 6 oz in the AM before work (and before K woke) then I got a total of 8oz from my two sessions at work.
-Schedule: 5am (pump), 6:30 K nurses about 30 mins total, 11am (pump), 3pm (pump), 5:30/6pm K nurses 30 mins, 8pm K nurses.
-Already, one week in, my morning pump is down .5oz and my first work pump today was down .5oz. I am going to weigh K tonight and see if her weight is up any.
-I cant add a session at work.
-I could add a session at 10pm if anyone thinks that would help!

I'd always said I'd pump so long as it worked no problem but now that my supply is already dropping I feel I am fighting a losing battle. I'd love to still nurse her first thing in the morning and right before bed - I'm wondering how long this could go on for?

Any input would be awesome!
