I'm 2 weeks pp and I haven't gotten fitted nor gotten any underwire bras.. I've been wearing bravado nursing bras that I got from Target. I like the stretchy material, and it offers decent support without the underwire feeling. I was a DD prior pregnancy, I have no idea what I am now and I'm wearing a L.

I'm between GG-HH depending on the week, and while I love my current underwires (finally weaned at 2.5!) I had wireless structured (sometimes referred to as "seamed") Bravado nursing bras for the first 18 months or so. When those no longer provided enough support (dropped enough feedings that my breasts softened and needed more support), what worked best for me was finding perfect bras and converting them to nursing bras! I took the clips from the bras I was retiring and followed a really simple tutorial online. It's easy hand-sewing, but there are also online shops and probably local seamstresses who can do it for you. Panache and Fantasie bras work best for me right now (full projection, even tissue distribution top to bottom, narrower wires, come in large enough cups for my 32-34 band). I absolutely recommend you poke around on the A Bra That Fits subreddit (http://reddit.com/r/abrathatfits), which has SO MUCH helpful information and links to cheap online bra retailers.

I'm a 36 DDD normally. For the first 4-6 weeks o lived in the nursing tanks from Target. I don't even want to know what size bra I would have needed (they were scary huge). After things calmed down a bit I measured myself at home and ordered the Elimi Nursing Underwire bra from Amazon. They don't really have great nipple coverage but I always wore nursing pads so it really didn't matter for me.

ETA: I wore underwire while nursing for most of a year and never had mastits so I wouldn't worry to much about that unless you are prone.

@BabyPenguinXO: Sadly Motherhood/Destination maternity did not have bras in a big enough cup size, pre-pregnancy was a 36DDD, I'm not probably a 36FF, if not bigger. I only pumped with my first one and then switched to FF, so am on the hunt for new nursing bras hoping this time goes a little better with nursing. I need support as well, so following.

I did get some non-underwire at our local breastfeeding store, but they are not enough support to go out in public in. I might have to give Soma a try.

@blackbird: I typically wait until figure8maternity has what I want on sale (they rotate their stock a lot). Right now you can take an additional 20% off clearance with the code Clearance20 or the code NursingBra20 gets 20% off 4+, 15% off 3, 10% off 2. Plus there is always free shipping. It's the best nursing/maternity site out there, they should pay me for how often I recommend them!

Are any of these brands somewhat affordable? I hate to spend $80 on a nursing bra I may only need for about 4 months, then turn around and have to buy all new $70 regular bras afterwards ;)

I lived in these. Had three that I rotated between for both pregnancies and breastfeeding months and was so happy to throw them away when I was done!

http://www.motherhood.com/Product.asp?Product_Id=99389Z10361&MasterCategory_Id=MC29

They are sport bras but they have thin straps, and they have a nice amount of padding for nipple coverage and hide your nursing pads well. I liked the lift they provided but there's no separation, which is my preference. I got two black and one white.

I'm currently a G-H cup, and for the first month of nursing, I just wore the Bravado nursing tanks from Target, as your size is super unpredictable at first.

Then the best thing I did was go to a specialty lingerie store to get professionally measured.

I ended up with this Medela bra (http://www.bravadodesigns.com/shop/medela-seamless-full-fit-underwire-style-98). Totally unsexy, but very comfortable and does the job really well!

One note about underwires- there shouldn't be any risk of mastitis as long as the underwires fit correctly- the underwire should rest on your ribcage, and should not be compressing any breast tissue whatsoever. That's how it should fit regardless of nursing or not, but so many women wear the wrong size/fit of bra, so a professional fitting should help you choose the right size.

@BabyPenguinXO: Nordstrom had a nice selection of bras that work well for larger sizes. I have a Freya nursing bra that is underwire and works well. I believe they have free return shipping do you could conceivably order a few options and then try it all on and send back what you don't like.

I had a hard time finding larger sizes in most stores.

I know several large chested moms (including me)who simply cannot live without underwire and we haven't had mastitis. So if you really want the support I would get one and try it.

I went ahead and got a nursing bra while I was pregnant. J needed a bra anyways because I went up a bra size and this way I just dominated using it after the baby. I would go ahead and have one or two before hand. My size didn't change that much in third tri/with milk. I honestly had more changes right away in first/second tri.

Also did you ladies order these bras or go to a store?

Motherhood maternity and Destination Maternity are the two big stores here. Motherhood fitted me last time. But I ended up not getting any of their bras.

I've been looking into Bravado they seem to come recommended. Maybe I will get 1-2 underwire bras for going out where I'm concerned about perky boobs LOL.

Does babies r us or any department stores carry any of these brands?

I have jcpenny, kohl's, Macy's, herbegers, nordstroms rack... Tj maxx. Target of course. I Hate the idea of not trying them on especially some places online don't accept retirns

@BabyPenguinXO: I liked the Bravado seamless silk to buy pre-delivery because you could fudge the sizes while you size went up and down. They sell them on Amazon. That said, the first three weeks I lived in cheap nursing tanks from Target.

I would like to get at least one bra right away because I will have an 18 month old and a newborn by myself! My fiancé is working out of state and won't be home super long. So the less shopping the better.

Highly recommend Elomi and the Le Mystere Mama Mia (padding). If you need support, i don't think you are going to get away without underwire. I've been wearing underwire since 6 weeks PP and only got mastitis once due to a clogged duct. Oh and I was a 32G pre pregnancy and am a 34G now.

I have an F/G while nursing and find that only underwires are sufficient support. If the underwire is properly fitted there is no increased risk of mastitis. Have it professionally fitted at a breastfeeding center. No part of the underwire should compress breast tissue, it should hit at the armpit.

I like Cake Lingere (specifically the Toffee bra) for good lift and support.

I'm not all that "tig" exactly (D cup while nursing) but totally gave up on nursing bras because none seemed to fit well and have been fine just pulling a normal underwire aside a thousand times a day for the past 6 months. They're getting a little out of shape so I'll get more soon, but I'd probably have needed new ones anyway from postpartum weight loss. I'd recommend waiting and seeing what you feel you need. There are also some simple tutorials online to convert a regular bra to a nursing one, and I've heard Nordstrom will do the alteration to any bra for you, if you want to go that route.

ETA: I also haven't had mastitis despite daily underwire wear. They're more comfortable to me than the wireless ones I bought in pregnancy and specifically for nursing.

First, how big are they? When I was nursing, I wore a 40 DD (up from a 36 C). Second, I highly recommend getting fitted for a bra. My bra is a Soma underwire nursing bra and it is the best bra I own. I have worn it every day since I bought it a year ago and it has held up amazingly. I don't feel comfortable in a non-underwire bra, and while I did have mastitis once, it was not related to my bra. Good luck!

Hi Ladies! I am wondering if anyone has found good bras for nursing? I'm pregnant with my second and only nursed for 3 months with my first, he was premature and the constant pumping took over my life.

I never got any good bras.

I need good nipple padding!
Support for these bad boys!
Comfort.

I would prefer no underwire as it seems to be linked to increasing chances of mastitis!

A friend recommended Bravado double plus bra but I see mixed reviews. She doesn't have large ta tas like me so she couldn't comment on the support aspect.

Thanks!
