We tried nursing during and it was a complete failure. Good luck :( I think hugs after and fresh air helped her more than anything :)

Also right after. I've only had to do it once - I was waiting to feed her until after. She doesn't really cry but a second or two, so I've stopped nursing after shots. A hug and lots of kisses usually calm her down.

I always nursed for vaccines and for blood draws. Vaccines, I just leaned over him as he laid there. For blood draws, I wrapped him in a blanket and nursed him with one arm out.

I nursed right after. He was hysterical until he latched on, and then he was instantly calm. He was so hysterical from the shots, I doubt he would have nursed through them.

I'm the minority! I nurse during each vaccine. Works wonderfully for us. My BFF who is a nurse recommended it.

Same--right after. I've also heard it is better to do it after--you don;t want them to have negative associations WITH nursing!

I've always nursed right after her shots to help soothe her. I just asked the nurse if we can stay in the room longer so I can nurse and they're cool with it.

Shots take a few seconds and my LOs stopped crying as soon as we picked them up. 6 months wasn't too bad for us.. just made my kids really sleepy.
Hope your LO does well! good luck!

@jodyblair: Ugh, it's the absolute worst. I'm unable to nurse anymore, so I couldn't distract her during her last round of shots, and hearing her cry out was a killer. I wish I could just get vaccinated for her! :(

@deerylou: I wish I could have made LO's appointment at a time when DH could go so I could leave the room. I HATE hearing him scream in pain. It makes me tear up every time. He is easily soothed as soon as I pick him up and nurse him, but it still breaks my heart.

I always just nursed immediately afterwards. we do one shot in each thigh so I'm not really sure how I would even have gone about nursing during his shots!

I nursed during DD's ankle prick test in the hospital, and her first round of shots at one week - it worked out fine, and she barely noticed. I was a bit traumatized by her newborn shots (huge needle, little baby), so I had DH hold her at her 1 month shots, while I stood in the corner and closed my eyes.

I don't know how you could. It goes in their legs. I would still jump/get scared if someone pricked my leg like that. I just nurse/give a bottle right after.

I've read in a few different places that you can nurse your baby while they get shots to try to keep them calm. Has anyone ever tried this? Did it work? We're coming up on LO's 6 month check up and I am already dreading the shots!
