@catlady: @Miss Ariel: Thanks, guys! I had been planning to drop to one pump (instead of two) at work this week...DD is 11 months tomorrow. Well, then I got cold feet, and chickened out, and planned to do two pumps for another week or so, and then my schedule got crazy today and so one pump it is. Then still one before bed! Sheesh!

I was nursing instead of pumping over the holiday, and so yesterday I only pumped 8oz over the course of THREE pumps. UGH...that's almost 1.5 hours of pumping for 8 ounces. I never respond well to the pump after being with her for an extended period of time...but man, that was sad. Ha!

Last night was the first I didn't pump before bed and it was so amazing! I was afraid I was going to leak overnight but was surprised how empty I felt in the morning. Knowing how well it went dropping 1 pump I'll plan on easing out of my two workday pumps over the next two weeks before dd turns one.

I pump weaned at 12 months and basically decided to "day wean" at the same time. She was already used to getting milk in a bottle during the day at daycare, so we just switched to that on weekends too, and gradually switched the BM to regular milk and the bottles to sippy cups. I kept the AM/PM sessions and assumed she'd drop them on her own but she didn't. I weaned her from the AM one about 6 months later and still have the PM one now at 25 months (!). Good luck! It feels great to stop pumping. :)

@Adira: Makes sense! E has never been picky about a bottle, so I don't think she'll mind having a bottle or a cup instead of nursing, it's just that nursing is so much more convenient sometimes. Ha!

With Xander, I day weaned nursing when I cut out bottles because I figured I needed to be consistent. But with Logan, I'm thinking I will still nurse on the weekends even when I'm done pumping, mostly because we nurse to sleep for naps. I'm planning on giving him cups of milk during the day though because I doubt he'll get much from me...

Today is day 2 without pumping at all! LO just turned 12 months and over the weekend wasn't interested in nursing during the day, so figured it was time to quit.
As of now we will nurse 5:30 am, 6 pm and 8:30 pm and hopefully my supply can keep up with that.

*I gradually cut my pumping from 3x/day to 2x to once over a few months and I was only getting an ounce or so less each time/day so hopefully going from 4 sessions to 3 per day will allow me to keep nursing, for a little, until I actually ready to quit! (I originally had no plans to even make it to a year!)

@mfa_lady: yeah i know the feeling of being ready to kick the pump to the curb! But I ended up bringing my pump with me to work the first few days after I weaned to make sure I didn't need it!?!

dD nurses as much as she wanted after I pump weaned. Never had any problems, maybe a slightly slower letdown.

@mfa_lady: Honestly it was SO FREEING. I got into the habit of always pumping before bed even if R got a night time bottle. It's how I built up a little stash and was great...but by 6 months I was over it. But continued to give the bottle anyways! I wish I had just nursed before bed. It's 20-30 mins of me time....I used to pump and watch tv in bed...but then had to go downstairs and wash parts.....and just felt tied to being home at a certain time to pump. I would absolutely drop that pump ASAP!

@winniebee: Ooh, I love this answer. I would LOVE to drop my nighttime session! I seriously hate pumping before I go to sleep. I'm going to be away from her a couple of nights this weekend, but maybe I'll start trying that next week.

@MamaCate: It's so funny--if you had told me 6 months ago that I'd be anxious about weaning from the pump, I'd have said you were crazy. I thought I'd be throwing that thing to the curb! But now I'm so attached to it--not the actual act, but knowing that I'm providing something for her while I'm away from her. Waaaahhh! My baby is almost 1!

R always got a bed bottle until 10 months I think? Then I just started nursing before bed because I knew he ate plenty and took a bottle fine. So I got rid of that session and continued to pump if he got a bottle during the day....but then I stopped doing that at 11 months. So, now i nurse when I'm around (I WAH but we have a nanny...and I'm sometimes not home/at meetings etc) and if I'm not he gets a bottle (if it's nap time) or he now takes WCM from a straw cup pretty well.

@mfa_lady: I was nervous about it too but it really was fine. I am sure my supply diminished but after a while it was more about the bonding than the milk and I am really glad we were able to do it. Good luck!

So I pumped until 13 months and then pump weaned. I continued to nurse morning after wake up and night before bed until about 21 months so it is possible!

We tried to stick to cow milk during the day but
LO occasionally wanted to nurse and I left her, but she was usually happy to have milk from a cup with meals (we bottle weaned at 11 months).

You can do it!

I have never pumped, my lo is 15 months and we nurse quite frequently when we are together on weekends. During the week when she is at daycare we obviously don't nurse. Doesn't seem to have caused a problem. But since I've never pumped I have no idea how much she is getting.

Eta- I should probably mention I was home with her nursing on demand until 12 months,

Following.... I'm going to be in the same boat when LO is about the same age, and have the same questions about how it works when you quit pumping at work but keep nursing at home.

DD is 11 months old this week and I currently pump 3x per day--twice at work and once before bed (because she gets a bottle from her daddy before she goes to bed). We nurse when she wakes up every morning, and during the day on the weekends. I have a decent amount of milk in the freezer, and don't want to keep pumping at work much past a year.

This means that eventually I'll only have one session of anything, once I pump-wean. I literally don't know how this works--can she still nurse during the day on the weekends? Will she get anything out? Will I even be able to keep up my supply at this point for one session only?

These might be really dumb questions, but thanks for bearing with me.

ETA: I'm open to continuing that morning session after she's a year old, if it's possible.
