@sorrycharlie: That's awesome to hear!!! I actually think when we wean, Xander probably won't even notice. He probably doesn't care now, I just make him do it every day, hahaha!

@Adira: if it makes you feel better, Olivia was a total boob monster..I dread weaning both because of that, and because I lived in dread fear of blocked ducts/mastitis. However, we weaned without a hitch - she could not possibly have cared any less, and I never leaked a teeny weeny bit :)

@Adira: I didn't either. I remember in the early days saying that it was all cows milk after one but now I feel like I'm in an awesome spot of nursing but not pumping and not worrying about having enough milk for daycare, etc. so I don't really have any reason to stop. It's my go to for bumps, boo boos, tantrums, shots, teething, MOTN wakeups... Lol!

@MsLipGloss: So true!!!

BUT he nursed this morning!!!! I feel so relieved, haha, though now I'm a little worried about what you said @MsLipGloss. I don't want to break his little heart when it comes time to wean, although he's never seem all that into nursing, so I don't think weaning will be that bad for him, regardless of when it happens.

I stopped nursing and started pumping. Pumped for the last time on his 1st birthday!

@MsLipGloss: I'm not ready!!! haha, I was hoping for 4 more months before weaning. Though I know I can't force it if he's not interested anymore.

@kiddosc: @Dandelion: @T-Mom: This makes me so sad. I don't want to be done... :crying:

@Mrs. Twine: Thanks for the tips. The hardest part is that we only nurse in the mornings before work, so there's not really a lot of time that I can keep offering or try different things before I have to leave and just give up. Oh well...

@Adira: When you are pregnant, the taste and quantity of your milk can change. It is not unusual for toddlers to not like the changes. There is often less milk, and sometimes you dry up completely (I did around week 10, though Ellie continued to nurse until the end of the pregnancy). If you would like him to keep nursing, I would just try all the things you would do during a strike--express some milk to maintain your supply, try nursing when he is drowsy or doing a "dream feed," try nursing in the tub (seems odd, but it worked every time either girl went through a strike)... don't push, but definitely keep looking for times he might be receptive. And, if you want, you can certainly use it as an opportunity to gently wean. If he's already striking it might be a really easy transition if it's something that you are okay with.

I would keep offering till he feels better. But if he still refuses then sounds likes he is over it. Or maybe he just isn't getting enough.

I really have no idea. I dropped out at the nursing club at 7.5 months.

I'm not pregnant, but had a similar illness-related issue over the weekend. LO was so stuffy (and probably had a sore throat) that she refused our bedtime session on Saturday night, and both morning and bedtime sessions on Sunday. She woke up feeling a bit better this morning and nursed no problem when I offered. I didn't pump any of the times we missed, and just offered at the usual time to see what she would do.

@travelgirl1: I was wondering if maybe it's because I'm pregnant, or if it's just because he's still sick! I guess I'll try again tomorrow and if he still won't nurse, maybe it's over? I don't think I'll be able keep from drying up without his help since my pump got almost nothing out this morning.

@Adira: I was talking to a nurse this morning about the opposite issue actually, but she told me that when a mum gets pregnant again, the nursing child tends to wean themselves. She didn't know why, but she said it happens often (although obviously not always). If it were me, I would follow his lead and not push it, unless it's really important to you to continue.

What do you do when you're down to nursing only once a day and your child refuses to nurse?

Xander's had a stomach bug and hasn't been eating or drinking as much as usual, but had been nursing just fine. But yesterday, he pretty much refused milk all day and this morning he wouldn't nurse at all. Every time I tried to nurse him, he would just start crying and fighting me.

I ended up having to send him to daycare without feeding him so I pumped instead, but I only got maybe half an ounce out. Is this signalling the end of our breastfeeding journey? What do you do if you're down to nursing once a day and your child refuses?
