We went down to nursing once a day about 3 months ago. He would nurse one boob mostly, and I'd make sure to do the other the next evening. My supply seemed to hold out okay. DS is 19 months and I recently weaned. I'm pregnant, it was becoming really uncomfortable/painful. He also developed impetigo on his face and I was worried about picking it up myself. Wishing we could have kept going a little longer. Good job, mama!

Thanks everyone. I should have mentioned DD has only nursed one side at every feeding since she was born. Not sure how she would react to trying both sides at one feeding.

@Aria: @Mrs. Microscope: So glad to hear this worked for you, it was what I was wanting to attempt but was worried I wasn't thinking it through.

I only nursed one side once DD went down to one nursing session. And it was the same (left side) each time. Her one session was at bedtime and because of the way I liked to lay her in the crib after she nursed to sleep (head away from the sound machine) I could only nurse her on the one side. Weird reasons, haha, but she only nursed once a day for a month or so before completely weaning.

I also nurse once a day and alternate sides between days. No issues.

We're down to one session a day and she just nurses one side, so I alternate each day. I haven't had any problems so far.

I always did both sides at the once a day. One side always got more full and produced more, so I normally always nursed from that side first to empty that breast, more for my comfort.

I'm still doing 2x/day but I do both sides, each time. So I imagine I would still do both sides if we cut it to 1x/day.

@catgirl: good question! I wish my son only nursed from one side each time and nursed twice a day for that matter... he will also be two in December. He's started switching sides back and forth like a maniac every single session we do, which is typically once before nap, once before bed, and then approximately a million times during the night from 3am until we get up. Sigh.

While I didn't nurse nearly as long, once I got down to once/day, I had to go with both sides during that time b/c I was afraid of totally drying up on the one side. One side was always more plentiful than the other, but I wanted to be sure it continued on both, so did both sides during one session until I was done.

DD will be two in December and she currently nurses twice a day - once when she wakes up and once before bed. I want to cut out the morning session but possibly keep the evening one for awhile before completely weaning.

When you were nursing once a day did you only nurse from one side from that point forward or alternate sides each day?
