We nursed until 19 months and LO was consistently STTN at 13 months. But we did some sleep training off and on to teach her to fall asleep on her own, so when she woke up in the night she didn't need to nurse back to sleep.

@matador84: my DD is 19, almost 20, months and she usually STTN (for the past 4 months or so). BUT if she wakes in the night and can't settle herself back to sleep, nursing is the ONLY thing that works. I've tried multiple times to send DH in and she just ends up shrieking "Mommy! Milk! MOMMY! MILK!" until I nurse her. I can't bring myself to let her scream so I always give in. Fortunately it's getting less frequent as she gets older but I have no clue what we'll do when she weans completely.

I feel like its hard for me to let her CIO because we are in a 2 bed--her brothers room is right down the hall and if I let her cry, she wakes him up. Then not only is DS up, but DH and I are up too! Hoping by letting her sleep in the crib in our room at night until she does STTN consistently I can then move her in with brother.

Maybe I am just dreaming. :-)

i weaned at 26 months. she slept thru at 16 months when we sleep trained. we sleep trained at 13 months, but she was so sick in the winter through 14-15 months. i def think she would have slept better at night without the nursing.

My big girl still had a night feed until she was around fifteen months old. In her case, she was dropping day feeds but not compensating with extra calories from solids so she was genuinely hungry. Once she really upped her solid intake she woke for cuddles for a wee while then just stopped waking all together.

A friend of mine started telling her 19-month-old that the milk had gone to sleep during nighttime wake ups. She would still snuggle her, but it was less enticing to wake up if nursing wasn't involved. She said it worked well for them and didn't damage their daytime nursing relationship.

@matador84: oh, but I had to stop nursing to sleep much earlier. She just stopped staying asleep when we transfered her so we had no choice really. But I think the shock of waking up no snugged up with you could be part of the problem?

Alice is almost 15 months and still nurses 1-2 times at night. Her twin brother sometimes wakes up once to nurse, but sometimes sleeps through the night. I don't know how to get them to stop! The other night we tried sending DH in to rock her when she woke up, but she screamed for half an hour (in his arms) before passing out. I don't think she actually needs to eat - I'm pretty sure it's just comfort nursing.

C nursed until 18 months but she started Sttn on her own around 9 months. She occasionally would wake up and if I went in for the first few months, she would still want to nurse, but if DH went in she would be ok snuggling.

She's been weaned for a few months now and unfortunately, has been waking up more during the night than she did at a year. She will be 2 next week and is getting her 2 year molars so hoping it's a short phase!

@matador84: I stopped my super nurser from night nursing when she was about 15 months because I was pregnant and couldn't take night nursing anymore. Dad just went in when she woke up at night. She was only bad for a few days, but then she started sleeping through the night no problems, which was a great side effect!

@catomd00: I got pregnant when LO1 was 9 months and he was weaned by a year but didn't sttn until about 18 months. It was awesome once he did but by then I had a newborn! I'm ready for a full night of sleep each night! Hopefully I can move them in the same room around December and she'll be fully weaned at 22 months

My 17 month old wakes 0-2 plus times still. She doesn't need to nurse back down but 50% of the time of I go in she will. DH did all night wakings for a week to try and night wean her but it made no difference lol. I'm just hoping I get pregnant quickly with #2 when we start trying next month and that will force her off! I'm ready to be done but not ready to force her to wean if that makes sense.

Did your LO wake up at night to nurse? My almost 17 month old still does and I don't want to nurse at night anymore. I've been nursing her to sleep, then moving her to crib from our bed when I go to bed, but she still wakes up and then ends up back in bed with us!

I can't wait to move her to her room with her brother!
