I would at least offer the other side. With my son I'd often feed one side, then change his diaper to wake him up a bit, then offer the other side. Congrats!

I fed on both sides from day one as per my midwives advice. I usually stopped him after 10 mins on one side and flipped him to the other.

My LO took botj sides from the start, but he often got/still gets sleepy (at 7.5 weeks now) after the first side. He generally wakes up after some burping or a diaper change and then takes a full feed from the second side. My guy is pretty hungry though.

Maybe try waking him up a bit and then offering the second side, and then if he doesn't take it you will know he doesn't want it.

@hellobeeboston: I had an average supply with my first and he almost always fed on both sides pretty early on! This time I had issues with oversupply and overactive letdown! It all settled after the first couple of months and now he's three months taking both sides at four feeds and one side in the morning (I pump 5-6 oz from the side he didn't feed on for my stash).

I think it's really common to use both sides with first baby and one at time with subsequent babies. Supply is often higher with babies that aren't first!

I offered both sides and then would start from the side i ended with next time, I think at that age I just went on her lead/demand!

With LO #1 he always drank both sides. With LO #2 she only did one side a t a time. I think i had a much better supply the second time!

Ok, I remember doing both sides with LO 1 pretty early on, so I thought maybe I was doing this wrong! My supply wasn't great before also, maybe it's better this time?

I usually just fed from one side, still do at 8 months. I think if your supply is high enough, then it doesn't matter.

Congrats Mama! My daughter didn't start taking both sides until about 3.5 months. Before then she would sometimes take the second side if I offered but then would throw it all up, so I knew it was too much for her. Sometime around 3 months, my supply really regulated (and I'm sure her stomach grew) and she started taking both sides well. Though there are definitely times even now at 5 months that she only wants one (usually because she gets distracted and would prefer to watch her brother!).

Hi all. I'm home with my almost 2 week old!! He's doing great gaining weight (born 9 lbs 6 oz) was 9 lbs 14oz yesterday at doc.... But I'm not sure if I should be trying to get him to eat on both sides? The schedule we are sorta on has me feeding him more often but only from one side. Is he too little to do both sides??? Here's what we have done since 3am:

3:35am right
4:10 left
7:00 right
8:15 left
10:30 right
10:40 left
11:30 right
12:00pm left
2:30pm right
3:30 left

He usually falls aslee on one side after 10-20 minutes. Occasionally he will do both sides but not often!

Should I try to get him in both sides?? Or will he start doing that more often as his stomach gets bigger? I can't remember how it went with LO 1!!
