Well, I've been able to get him to nurse while sleepy, so at least he's getting some food!! And I gave him some tylenol last night and he seemed to sleep okay. It's crazy to me that he might be teething, but it sounds like that might be the case!

@autumn865: I haven't noticed a change in his latch, so who knows!

@Mrs. High Heels: Maybe I will have to stop at BRU on my way to the pediatrician today and finally splurge on Sophie!

@Adira: I think it's teething too!! Hyland's teething gel, the sophie & winkle teething toys, and infant tylenol at bedtime helped J.

J started teething at 16 weeks, even though I don't expect to see teeth until he's 6 months. Seems to be following in the footsteps of his sister!

My LO went on a nursing strike for a week and it was awful! She was kicking and screaming every time I tried to nurse her. She would take the bottle though so I would give her about .5 oz of breastmilk in bottle and quickly switch to my boob. That was the only way I got her to nurse and it worked every time. Nursing strike lasted for a week. I was so relieved when it was over! Hang in there! It will get back to normal.

I would say either since your sick and something is different for him (maybe a slower let down or something? Could be be feeling a bit under the weather too?) Or teething can start that early. Has his latch changed? My DDs latch always gets a little goofy when a tooth is coming soon. As hard as it is try to trust him that sick, teeth, or whatever at four months he will eat what he needs. Hopefully tomorrow is better!

@Adira: apparently lying flat can make teething pain feel worse which could explain the screaming!

@hilsy85: @Kemma: Thanks, ladies! I'll keep trying!! I definitely think SOMETHING is up because he's not usually so fussy either. I was able to nurse him for a little bit after his nap, but then when I went to put him to bed, he started screaming his head off. I pick him up, soothe him, get to sleep, put him down, he wakes up screaming! Ugh, I hope it's teething!

My wee girl went through a partial strike at just shy of four months and it was definitely a result of teething!

Try nursing your LO just before and straight after naps while he's nice and relaxed and not thinking about it and I had success with dangle nursing and side-lying. I know it's hard but just keep casually offering the breast and don't force him if he's not happy, you'll both get through this!

So normal at that age!! For us it wasn't teething, it was just major distraction. And I think my flow had slowed down. I would try doing breat compressions once he latches on to help keep him interested. Also, at that time I gave up on any ideas of sttn and fed him every time he woke because I wanted to get the milk into him. Also try nursing right before sleep or right when he wakes up--when they're sleepy they sometimes forget to fight:fuss while nursing. Also, using a lovey to give Lo something to hold in his hand was helpful!

@Dandelion: I did try to look at them earlier and didn't notice anything, but his tongue kept getting in my way, so I probably didn't get a good look. I'll have to look again.

@Adira: Look at his gums...probably the bottom left (your right) see if it's red. It takes about a week or so...maybe longer. I honestly don't remember how long it actually takes.

@Adira: Yep...DS teethed at 4 months. Keep offering and get some teething aides. Some teething tablets will comfort him to nurse, and some frozen wet washcloths are really relieving for babies sore gums. Your supply will be fine! Keep pumping, too!

@Dandelion: Gahh, so soon? I hope not! haha. If it is teething, what do I do? Just keep offering the boob? I'm worried he's not eating enough because he won't nurse. And I'm worried my supply will tank. :(

I'm not sure if Xander's (4 months) going on a nursing strike or not, but this has been the WORST day (besides those first six weeks...). He's only eaten for a few minutes each time I try to nurse him and then he just cries uncontrollably. I have no idea what's going on. I'm worried that it's because my supply has dropped because I've been sick. And I'm worried that his lack of nursing is going to make it tank even more! Every time I try to feed him, he just pushes away and cries. I feel like he's only eaten a little bit all day and I don't know what to do!

Anyone have any advice?
