Thanks for the input! He seems to have turned a corner - still not a HUGE interest with the exception of before sleep, but he is at least nursing some here and there while awake. He is still really battling a cold, but his demeanor is greatly improved.

@winniebee: DS1 didn't really eat much solids either. But he's been my non-food motivated child. I do think his decreased milk intake HELPED him eat more solids. He wasn't really into feeding himself or eating much food until 10-ish months old. DS2 did much better on solids beginning 7 months old, although he too wasn't interested in self-feeding in any way until like 10-ish months old. Neither kid really picked up eating their own food until closer to a year old and we spoonfed in addition to finger foods for a long time. We aren't a BLW family - my kids just never really got into eating on their own.

@winniebee: Similar to what @gingerbebe: said, we went through something similar. DS didn’t stop nursing but he definitely nursed a lot less and seemed less interested. He wasn’t too big on solids at the time, but did eat some. I thought he was starting to wean, but it was teething/illness recovery and maybe something else. It all ironed out and he was back to his normal boob-loving self in less than a week. When he has colds at that age, I sat him up rather than a cradle hold to help with the post-nasal drip discomfort.

@gingerbebe: interesting! I think I would be ok with it if he was eating a bunch of solids, which he hasn’t been with the recent Illness. Did yours eat a lot of solids?

Teeth could be an issue, ears can definitely be an issue, but for both of my sons, they started gradually weaning on their own at 9 months. Their intake dropped drastically, especially my eldest. He dropped to like 16-20oz total per day (more like 16) and that was with great effort on my part. DS2 dropped to more like 20oz a day. Both gradually weaned down 1-2oz each month and DS1 was barely at 12oz by the time he was 1. Bottles, boobs, weaning, it was all a non-issue for them because they did it themselves. So its possible he's getting enough between the 4 feedings (mine were only on 4 milk feedings a day at that age).

@Pumuckl: Cradle type hold? Not laying down though. He has two teeth and it hasn't been an issue before, but the top front teeth look close too.

Do you nurse him laying down before he sleeps? If so maybe that feels better for him? And yes to @snowjewelz: suggestions, could it be he’s teething? That’s usually when mine didn’t like nursing.

G is almost 9 months and BF has been easy breezy until a week or so ago. He got pretty sick for a few weeks and a week ago was diagnosed with an ear infection and ran a fever for 5 days. The first round of antibiotics did nothing and as of Saturday he went on new antibiotics. He is overall doing better (but is still fighting a cold).

The problem now is nursing. For the past week or so, he will only nurse well before sleep (so, before both of his naps, bed, and overnight). If I try to nurse him while awake, he pushes me away or screams. I can sometimes get him to nurse for a few minutes but then he pushes away and gets mad. He won't take a bottle from me.

Does this seem like normal behavior for having been on the stronger antibiotic (Cefdinir) for over 72 hours? Should I continue to push nursing? Take him back to the doctor? I've been pumping some. He has plenty of wet and dirty diapers, but also isn't really into solids b/c of the cold.

Any insights are appreciated.
